Soap Berry is the fruit of the Sapindus Mukorossi tree

Plant-based soap. USDA Certified Organic Soap Berries. So I have followed the bulk straw pasteurization posts for a while. Adding lime water and soap to the bulk straws. There are lots of reading here. One concern is the synthetic chemicals of using dish soap. I stumble into organic soap berry during my search. My concern is more so for our environment. So I'm thinking this might be the solution to soak the straw to reduce the time involved. And at the same time safer for the environment too. Maybe I can order the seeds and plant some berries in our backyard. What do you think? Doable or not for straw soaking?

Give it a go man. A lot of people around here frown on new ideas, but experimentation is the key to new ways of doing things. If nobody had experimented with cold water lime pasteurizing then we wouldn't know how great it works.

I think it is a cool idea and worth trying but I wouldn't assume that just 'cause it is produced naturally it is good for you/the environment. Caffeine from coffee plantation waste for instance is entirely natural and yet is capable of polluting lots of water.
Don't mistake this post as trying to discourage tho. You might also want to try other biodegradable soaps like Dr. Bronners instead of waiting to harvest soap berries. I use this soap while camping. Kinda don't like that the label is all preachy about God and a whole bunch of other nonsense. But I must say it is good soap.

Dr. Bonners is awesome.
But there are other biodegradable soaps. I know either dawn or joy makes them.

Dude I LOVE the crazy shit on Bronner soaps. It's the most entertaining thing to read while on the toilet or shower.
It doesn't really sound like typical christian teachings though. Isn't it mostly just shouting "ALL IS ONE AND ONE IS ALL" and stuff? And various bible quotes lol.
Good soaps.

Kirk's Castile soap. Only thing in it is coconut soap, water vegetable glycerin and coconut oil. No animal by products or synthetic detergents and is biodegradable.
There are so many less expensive plant-based natural soaps out there. You just have to follow the thread to get there. Ohh, the soap berry has a chemical that will kill the fish. So might as well skip that one. There are so many to choose from. I wonder what is cheaper than Dr. Bronners alternative?

Dr bronners is pretty damn cheap. We buy it by the gallon for about 30 bucks. It's not like dish soap, it's VERY concentrated. And they have unscented

It's a cool documentary. Quite the strange man! Awesome soap though. He shows you the best way to take a hippie shower, using only Dr. Bronners and water in a sink
