What's standard temp? I usually put chicken in the freezer...I'm at work now and we do have a fridge but I don't feel like getting it if its cold enough outside to not create any problems.

Glad you decided to get it out of the car, salmonella is horrible.
Someone I knew got from eating a chicken sandwich that had been in the fridge slightly too long and wound up in hospital for weeks, vomiting, diarrhoea, painful stomach cramps, the whole nine.
You made a wise choice.

I wouldn't eat it. How long was it out there? I guess that's the main question. On my thermometer I use to cook with, it has a little red zone that is the "danger zone" for bacterial growth and it starts at 40 degrees.
Let us know how it goes if you eat it.

I wouldnt risk it.
I work in restaurants, the danger zone for bacterial growth is no more than 4 hours between 4C-40C. This 4 hours is total though, including the time it left out before being purchashed. (which sometimes is a lot)

i guess a good question would be what temp does a fridge run at? because i buy my chicken and beef in bulk and they always have a "freeze by" or a "sell by" date. usually only a day or 2. ill put them in my fridge, then separate and repackage them in 1 lb airtight bags before that date on the meat. then put them in the freezer.

Fridges are usually ~40°F, you weren't too far off from that, you'll be fine.
As long as it doesn't smell bad it's still good.
As long as you cook it thoroughly it'll be fine anyways even if it did get salmonella or something similar, which is very highly unlikely.
