You don't pressure cook plastic dishes.  You  buy sterile dishes, and pour your pressure cooked agar into them.

Glass petri dishes can be pressure cooked or boiled.  I used to boil them in water for a few minutes and then keep them in the hot water until I was ready to fill them in front of the flowhood or in a still air box.

ok I got petri dishes with pre-made agar. I just says to put in the microwave and you're good to go.  My half pint jar with dog food agar got contaminated so hopefully this works.

I was thinking of putting both spores and tissue on one. does this raise the chance of contamination?

Its my understanding that making your own agar is beyond cost effective, and also as cheap as they are  ( 25pack of three tiered plastic-presterile dishes at 5$ a piece and 10dollars shippping
Link here - Cymar

So,
Subtotal $28.80
Shipping Charges $10.95
Grand Total $39.75

150 Petri Dishes @ $39.75 = .26 Cents a piece - Cheaper if you buy more.

Plus, having a pressure cooker once reaching a more advanced and productive stage of mycology is a must, even if you're just getting a smaller pressure cooker.

Amazon - Presto 23 QT - 80 Dollars

This is a cheap, 23qt - I believe fitting 7 Jars upright and 3 sideways for a total of 10 1QT Jars per Load.

You can always use 1/2 Pint - 1 Pint Jars and Opt for a smaller pressure cooker, but look here - 6 QT PRESTO - Amazon Its 50 Dollars, for an extra 30 Dollars, you'll be able to use less energy overall and load many more quarts, something to think about.

A pressure cooker is your friend in this hobby, after having one you wont look back.
