Score! Apart from the gastropod feeding damage that Hericium is absolutely pristine.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Rad finds!

I think the jack o lanterns are actually an Armillaria sp.

More pics would help. Of the gills.

Im pretty sure your jacks are jacks... they are just nicer than many tend to be.

See them glow by chance???

Thanks guys! I was really excited when I spotted the Hericium. We fried it up and ate it.  Very interesting texture and taste. Almost like a roasted pumpkin seed.  I liked it and will look for more.

I have a little piece of the Hericium left that I may drop on agar and see if I can cultivate it.

Ganzig, I didn't pick any of the Jack o Lantern(or Armillaria). I like hunting that location and will revisit it. If they are still there, I'll pick one and get full pics.

I wish I had taken pictures of the stalked puffballs(Calostoma Cinnabarina) that we found.  They were really neat

I should have taken a few steps back and taken a pic of the tree.  They were completely surrounding the entire tree.  It was a pretty awesome sight.

For shape, colour and texture that is Omphalotus, not Armillaria.

Thanks Joie! I forgot to add that one of the people with us did pick some. I did see the gills. They were decurrent. That was an important factor in the original ID

Do you mean the grape? I don't think that is the muscadine grape.

:ifindthisboring:

It's a southern "thang" we make muscadine wine with it.

Very common native woodland vine/weed down here.

Yes like the grape.  Vitus rotundafolia

"Scuppernongs" :crazy2:
