Pressure canner vs Pressure cooker?

I'm at the store about to purchase a 16 quart pressure cooker, or so I thought On the box it says pressure canner but on the name tag it says pressure cooker? I did a quick search online and it says that they are in fact different But does it matter for Pf Tek?

You can do both in a PC cook food or can food. My AA921 makes a mean stroganoff and I use it to sterilize tools and spawn jars.

pf tek doesn't even need a pc. As long as your pc does 15 psi you're fine.

So I'd be fine with a 16qt pressure canner rather than a 22 qt pressure cooker?

Yes, unless you want to fit 10 jars instead of 7.

So, kind of a funny story I'm 19 and still live at home and I biked to pick up my PC thinking it was a lot smaller and could fit in my backpack but with the box I was wrong I really didn't want to walk 30 minutes holding a PC in my hands so I asked my dad to come pick me up "Shopping for christmas presents early?" He asked in a questionable voice "No, it's for me" I replied "You know these things are dangerous right?" He said "How so?" I asked Then he went on about how they were used for bombs or something like that and I'm just sitting there like Do.. do you think I'm going to bomb some people or? But anyways, I got home and took it out of the box and decided I'd try and cook something with it so I don't look as suspicious I have to clue what I'm doing and just threw in some water/milk and pasta that comes in those packages with the dry sauce added to it I have no idea how this is going to turn out Feel free to point and laugh

Did you read the instructions on how to use the thing?
You really shouldn't be growing in your parents' house, either.
There are plenty of real recipes you could try.

Yeah I did but I was panicky and wanted to just cook something fast Overcooked it a little and it tasted bland so I added some meat and seasoning so it doesn't taste as bad
Also, I know I shouldn't but it's not like I'm going to grow a bunch and start selling them to people It's just a small grow for me and maybe a few close friends Can't find anyone to sell me some and lots of people on here convinced me to grow my own so I thought, eh, why not? Everything has been a bit more expensive than I initially thought Probably spent around $300 for everything so I might as well have one grow to enjoy without guilt

I really hope you didn't go all out and buy a bunch of useless shit.
What have you purchased so far to add up to $300?

Do you live in Canada? I guess I hadn't thought about having to buy a drill or coffee grinder or any of that stuff.
But $40 for shipping is BRUTAL. Never go through that vendor again, holy hell.

Yeah I live in Canada, that's why the shipping was so expensive and my bad it was $35 not $40 Also if I move out and decide to continue then I don't have to pay as much so it's not that bad I could have waited 5 weeks to get it for $20 shipping but I didn't want to so that was my fault haha

Shipping anything to canada from the us is a pain in the balls. I bought my presto pc on amazon for 70usd, and by the time shipping was added, it cost me almost 200cad.
Looks like you've got all the right stuff, op. Don't get your parents in trouble, though.

Alright sweet, everything is pretty straightforward Just one question I've had for a while though All guides say to not put the tin foil back on after you inoculate them but how does it not get contaminated the second you take it out of the glove box? Also, tape vs no tape on the top? How is the tape going to help after you've already stabbed your syringe into the holes?

Awesome! No worries though, I'm not planning any super big projects or anything, just this small one until I move out which will be soon

The dry layer of vermiculite you top the jar off with will act as the filter. So don't use tape. Watch the parts about PF tek in these videos: http://www.mushroomvideos.com/

The dry vermiculite barrier is what prevents contamination, not the foil or tape. Before you start making your jars, make sure your syringe fits in the holes properly.
