Anxious about poisoning - please advise!
    #18999966 - 10/19/13 02:26 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I ate some of these guys on Wednesday night, didn't get much sleep. Thursday was regular as far as the day after a trip goes, played some soccer, and had a lot of dairy. Woke Friday with typical dairy overload shits (not watery) and a slight lack of appetite, food didn't taste as good as it normally does. I was having very slight one minute headaches that feel like a mj head rush, or maybe slight dehydration, slight fatigue possibly from the exercise the night before, and anxiety attacks regarding poisoning. Whenever a panic attack came on, I had very small amounts of diarrhea, typical of my past anxiety attacks. No nausea besides slight hungry feeling and no vomiting. Now I'm feeling better with no signs of kidney or liver distress, but I'm still worried. Can anyone say I'm gonna be fine or should I get to a hospital for tests?

Thanks in advance!

Those are Psilocybe cyanescens and don't contain any toxic chemicals other than psilocybin and related psychoactive alkaloids.

I should mention I ate the cyans fresh, and have only had dried cubes before. Maybe the unfamiliar mushroom and/or the fact of "fresh vs. dry" is just giving me a little bit of gastro upset (barely) or maybe it's just my anxiety. One other point is: I was on the tail end of a cold or something, could the trip have diminished my immune system allowing the sickness into my bowels?

The gastric distress is due to the chitin in mushroom cell walls, which is not digestible, that's why almost all mushrooms must be thoroughly cooked before eating.

Psilocybe cyanescens [Re: Tangich]
    #19000024 - 10/19/13 02:38 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I identified the mushrooms, each, but I'm wondering if any amount of toxic mycelium could have been present on the mushroom.

In other words, based on what I saw, I ate only ps. cyan. but I wonder if I ate something I couldn't see. My anxiety is about my symptoms, not about the mushrooms.

From what I've read most mushroom poisonings make your guts explode out both ends, which I did not experience. I'm just looking to pacify my anxiety, hopefully someone can comment on how my symptoms are not poisoning, but rather just the aftereffects of tripping while having a cold, or the fact that it was my first time with cyans, as well as my first time fresh.

Thanks for this. What you're suggesting is that eating "any" raw mushrooms would give me a little bit of stomach discomfort, and since my symptoms are very mild, and not, as mushroom poisoning symptoms are listed as, "violent"?

P.S. My symptoms were most noticeable between T+36h-48h, again I'm thinking due to my junk food binge around T+24.

You are not poisoned. If the mushroom you ate is not a toxic species, you cannot be poisoned by it. Your 'symptoms' can be attributed to a variety of causes, however the majority of it is due to anxiety. They will disappear in a day or two.

Exactly. Believe me, if you were poisoned by a mushroom, even a mild one, you would know, and you wouldn't be able to even type.

Yeah getting high while you have a cold blows.  While I can't offer much insight, it probably is just the cold fucking with you.

I have a cold right now too and it sucks, I can barely get high when I smoke a bowl right now.  :nojustno:

Thanks man. You've helped quite a bit. I've always experienced a heightened level of anxiety for about a week after trips, but I think only due to the fact that I'm a fucking hypochondriac when it comes to mushroom poisonings. And still then only because toxic presentation takes days in some cases. I know that orellanine can take upwards of a couple weeks to present itself.

I never eat anything I can't identify with 100 per cent certainty. My worry was about eating a very small amount of something that was poisonous and not noticing it or it being microscopic, stuck to my shroom.

Pretty sure it works like this for me post trip: 1. afterglow, or funny feeling, drained, dehydrated, mushed, whatever you call it - leads to 2. anxiety - leads to 3. mild symptoms mimicking poisoning - leads to 4. repeat steps 2-4. Snowball.

That is completely impossible. Even with the most toxic mushrooms like Cortinarius orellanus or Galerina marginata, you still need to eat a substantial amount of material. Bacterial infection of the fruitbodies would at most cause a mild and short lasting 'food poisoning'-like symptoms.
You really shouldn't worry about that in the future, if you know what you're eating, there is no chance of a lasting poisoning.

Again thanks for this. I don't know any friends who can help with things like these. I'm the most experienced and well read of my group of friends when it comes to all things shroomy, but still have a great deal to learn yet. So it's nice to be able to ask the masters on the shroomery. Anxiety is a curse... I refuse to take meds because of my anxiety regarding mixing said drug with psychedelics. And there's no way I'm quitting psychedelics  so just gotta live with the panic. :P I really do appreciate this community, not only for information - but for support in all avenues of life (and life-threats! Lol).

Thank you again, Shroomery.
And thank you Tangich, for your kind words of pacification
And thanks Stan for your account of sickness "travels" hopefully we both beat out these colds ASAP.
