It's too ridicolous... you pick something growing in nature that's not an endangered species and all of a sudden you're liable for prosecution.

PC Dave Tippetts from Wiltshire Police said: "Any person seen picking or found in possession of Magic Mushrooms will be liable for prosecution.

"One of my main concerns is that there are very similar mushrooms growing in the area that are extremely poisonous and could cause physical harm if consumed."

"...therefore we have to prosecute, for potential to accidentally harm oneself, a potential that doesn't exist in the confines of any legal activity such as walking the coastal path or leaving the bath running. We have thought this through very thoroughly and we have definitely identified the reason why we are stepping up patrols of mushroom pickers. No, we haven't found your bike yet. We're very busy. No, I couldn't name a poisonous mushroom. I'm just PC Dave Tippetts, and I sound full of shit, but I must be right, because I am PC Dave "Shit-For-Brains" Tippetts. If you met me you'd understand in a flash, because I don't look too clever either, and then I might have to arrest you because you might accidentally hurt yourself later, somehow."

Making something naturally occurring against the law... Doesn't sit right with me I'm afraid.

What are the penalties?

I imagine it would be mild since it has not been illegal all that long.

idk, class A is severe. It has always been illegal to prepare magic mushrooms, and to sell them. The law was changed because the police were scared that the wording of an informal letter to a shopkeeper would leave them struggling to prosecute shopkeepers, so they asked for a law criminalising mushroom pickers. Because, fucking idiots. And me, in principle at least, I like the police, I don't call them fucking idiots when they stop me for speeding or something, I call them fucking idiots when people like PC Dave Tippetts start trying to show everyone what a big willy they have. "Hey look, hippies! Let's arrest them and say it's for their own good!" or something, because this giant pussy of a police officer wouldn't know what to do with a real criminal. Dave Tippetts, fucking pussy.

Yeah clearly they don't realise that such articles promote the activity as much as prevent it. No wait. It does nothing to prevent it. And with pictures of other mushrooms they aren't doing themselves any favoures.

Nah makes no difference here. It was imedatly put in the same class as crack, heroin etc. How they came to that conclusion is beyond me. There is probably no recorded deaths as a direct result of it. Or an insignificant amount. By that logic alcohol should be class A++++++++ and yet that remains legal.

Going to prison for 7 years and having ruined life for a mushroom that is harmless to mentally sane person. "He is for murder, he's got 10 years, that one is for rape, 20 years. What about you mate? Umm I was hiking and picking mushrooms".

All this while violent people are getting wasted every weekend destroying, fighting and creating unneeded drama. And politicians say shrooms make people crazy, when they can look at their own backyard.

Federally it is Schedule one.

"Substances in this schedule have no currently accepted medical use in the United States, a lack of accepted safety for use under medical supervision, and a high potential for abuse."

They don't all have to fit all criteria. Such as psilocybin is not
addictive like heroin.

I am not sure about Oregon but I am pretty sure you will get in a lot
of trouble.

Much more than possession of ganja. But I don't know for sure. Ill try to find
out.

They treat it as serious there, we are generally lucky that nobody bothers to disturb us here, notwithstanding PC Dave Tippetts, who after 7 years in the force has identified that his main task is ensuring you don't pick the wrong mushroom, by arresting you. Fortunately people who are looking for legal mushrooms never pick the wrong mushroom, so he can focus his efforts.

aye ,

I guess most people have seen this ,

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2c/HarmCausedByDrugsTable.svg/600px-HarmCausedByDrugsTable.svg.png

now , to be fair their never going to make ethanol (alcohol) a class A drug, for 1 the tax they make of it and its been part of our history for thousands of years ,

but why a naturally occurring fungi is lumped into the class a category along with crack and heroin is beyond me

iv never heard anything bad in the news related to mushrooms , certainly no deaths

they're was a couple of deaths in Holland actually prior to their ban which they tried to  link directly to mushrooms

I think it was a kid jumped off a building in the dam if I remember right , anyhow I think Holland's liberal approach to everything , meant that people just went there to get fucked out their brains ( and still di I might add) , but potent species of mushrooms being readily available on tap so to speak to kids, or any tom dick and harry who are clueless what their taking was potentially asking for trouble

The incidents here in Amsterdam leading to the ban were:

A french chick jumping into the harbour and dying of hypothermia. She was suicidal well before she ate the shrooms.

Some dude jumping out of a window in the red light district. He landed on somebody who strained their neck quite badly.
He was on shrooms. Amongst other drugs.
But he was really confused. So without any doubt that must have been due to the shrooms then...

I read about those things. People, especially the parents of that girl, had
to be placated. So they made all but stones illegal. Makes no sense.

Strange stuff.

yeah its always underlying issues

yeah they always try to find a scapegoat , 99 times out of 100 it has no relation to the incident , its the same with death , just because a substance is found in their blood it must automatically means that's the cause of death , underlying problems arnt even taking into consideration

media just dramatize anything to get a story

Wow. I feel like I should share a story that my mum told me. She was working at the intensive care unit when two Italian guys got wheeled in. They were celebrating in Amsterdam for a bachelor party.

The bachelor himself was in the worst condition when he came in. He had drank all day, had some molly and took some GHB later. Got horny and went to the red light district. Of course, the combination of drugs in his system made it very difficult for him to get hard.
Viagra. More viagra. Still no response in his privates. More viagra. Eventually he had taken so much viagra that he had to be rushed into the intensive care because his heart was playing up.

Also, his dick got hard. Rock hard. It wouldn't come down hard. It tore all the spongy tissue hard. Viagra increases blood pressure and it caused all the microscopic vains in his dick to explode.

Mending all of those countless microscopic vains is impossible so there was only one solution... Amputation.

The guy then had to ring his fiancee back in Italy...

"Baby, you know how I went to Amsterdam? I took some drugs, went to fuck a hooker and now they had to cut my dick off... But I love you baby, will you pleeeeaaase still marry me next week??"

Don't do drugs kids.

I don't think it's drugs or alcohol that make people do these things though to be honest. It's just stupid people to begin with.

Perhaps the guy wasn't as stupid as it seems. I know we're all different and every trip is different, but when I've had "too much" shroomage I find it hard to see...if you know what I mean. So how on earth did he even manage to cut if off. Jeez.

Definite face palm incident

Mutilation, amputation, I'm beginning to feel a bit sick, can we change topic

I know what you're saying but i just can't see it happening to people with a lot of common sense.
