Has anyone gone to Peru to one of these ayahuasca retreats? Are they worth it? Why? Or why not?

Do you know any learned people around you where you could take a trip in nature?  It doesn't have to be in Peru...  It's just an "easier" environment as it's pretty, and so close to nature, plus someone is there to hold your hand.  For the amount of money it costs for a "retreat", you could do an awfully lot.  I think you would learn much more if you did the research and acquired the ingredients yourself.  You would understand the same thing in the end.

But I can see where an extremely busy person would just want to give someone money and them do most of the work for them, not bashing people who would rather do it that way, and some NEED others to be around.

Do you have free time?  What are you hoping/expecting out of a trip like that?

I lost faith in the God/Religion I was raised to believe in, and ever since then I've been stuck in this spiritual rut. I read all these books about spirituality and I understand them but I just cant get out of this rut. So I guess what im looking for is a spiritual awakening.

An ayahuasca ceremony is far more than just ingesting ayahuasca in nature. Is not something you're going to recreate on your own and is worth a try. Though get to know your scene better. There are many traveling ceremonies that don't involve expensive journeys

Ya affording the trip wouldn't be that difficult if i saved for a couple months. If that's what you mean by if im sure I could go. I feel the ceremony would be beneficial seeing as im seeking a spiritual experience.

Hey!
I went to Peru last summer and had an amazing experience with a great shaman. Check out this facebook site and shoot me a message if you want more information about anything. Good luck on the healing process for everyone.
