First Grow! Does This Look Right?
    #18990721 - 10/17/13 12:25 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

This cake was birthed about a week ago after the 7 days consolidation , dunk n roll etc. Its been in the FC almost a week and so far I am seeing growth but not sure if its aerial myc, knotting or what. Not sure if there is something wrong as I haven't seen any pins yet. I'm keeping rH around 90-100%, misting 3-4 times a day, fanning about 6-7 a day. Seems like I have trouble with water pooling on the jar lids at the bottoms of the cakes and it doesn't evaporate. The myc at the bottom of the cake has been growing out towards the pooled up water. The only thing I could think to do was take a qtip around the edges of the jar lids to soak up that water and get it away from my myc. I think it may have water logged my cake as I didn't catch that for several days til I noticed the little fungus foot coming off the bottom of the cake. I just put 6 more cakes in my FC last night so he has some friends now. The cake is a little heavy so I'm sure its not dried out, If anything its probably too wet at the bottom but the top evaps water droplets an hour after misting. Any advice?

I cant see if your fruiting chamber is up to specs, but everything looks fine. Be patient and good things will come, I know that's a shitty reply but everything else looks really good. How often are you fanning and misting.

Mycelium will grow around the vermiculite layer. Looks fine to me. Give it some more time... Pins should show soon.

Lookin good so far! If im not mistakin i believe i see some hyphal knots forming in the 3rd pic so all is well :pipesmoke:
However fanning 6-7 a day seems a little extreme to me. Try misting and fanning about 4-5 times a day instead.
also if your getting water pooling on the bottom you may be misting too much. Try to just give em a fine mist and let it fall onto the cakes.
Good luck! :mushroom2:

Good pictures!
They look good, just keep doing what you're doing. They'll soon start popping out all over the place.

Thanks guys! The reason I have been fanning so much is my FC is in a medium sized walk in closet with the door open so I thought it may need more fae. My FC is not up to specs... I got the FC from a friend who used to grow but the design is outdated. The only water pooling issue I have just seems to be on the jar lids my cakes sit on. Seems the water does not evap off those lid surfaces even when my cakes look dry. Worried about bacterial growth on those lids forming and contaminating my cakes. I am building a SGFC right now as we speak. I have my FC setup in my closet because I don't want the sunlight coming in my windows to interrupt its 12/12 light schedule. I'm running lights from noon to midnight as this corresponds well with my work schedule. Should I keep my setup in the closet or move it out into the open?

Into the open. Indirect sunlight is great for mushrooms and so is FAE.

So when I move this out into the open should I just adjust its 12/12 light cycle to correspond with natural daylight? I'm using two lamps with 6500k CFL's.

Yeah, do that.
It's way better than having them in a closet.

Quick question about my setup... is it OK to run a box fan my room as long as its not pointed directly at my SGFC? I have my setup in my bedroom (only place I have room for it) and it gets a little stuffy at night without a fan going.

It is best not to run a fan in a room with a sgfc but I used to have a sgfc in my bedroom and I ran a fan in there at night. I had it where it was not blowing anywhere near the sgfc and it didn't seem to cause any issues

I have to have a fan going while I sleep also. My bed is on the other side of the room so the fan will be blowing the opposite direction of my FC. I only sleep 5-6 hrs so hopefully it won't dry out my cakes.

Youll be fine with a running fan. Every SGFC grow Ive done was in a small room with a large ceiling fan set to medium blowing 24/7. No issues

Thank u guys for all the advice! First grow 12/12 jars no contams and now finally fruits! My only question now is that cake with the fruits, there are some smaller pins still forming on that cake and two in that cluster of larger fruits. Should I harvest those big ones when they're ready and leave the smaller pins to grow or harvest all at once and redunk?
