The Fuck Did I Do!?

so i tried installing Win7 over linux by booting a Win7 image from the cd rom. some error message popped up saying i would not be able to install windows or some shit. i read a bit and saw that i need to format the drive back to NTFS so i did using Disks.
i load the win7 image again and try installing.
the damn thing wont let me. it doesnt do shit but sit in a black screen. the only way i can use the net now is by booting the linux mint image. (i thought of that myself. )
the fuck do i do?
all im trying to do is install win7 then re install linux alongside windows.

Let me get this straight. You have free space on your hard drive, or even a primary NTFS formatted partition on your drive, yes? You didn't get through the first phase of Windows install, i.e. no files were copied to your drive yet, right? You are using an actual, physical win7 disc (not some virtual image), right?
So are you getting this blank screen when booting with or without the windows install disc? What happens when you turn the machine on and before you get the blank screen?

How do you get it to boot to Linux; do you change the active partition, do you use a Linux cd to boot from or something else?
I'm trying to figure out what your partition table looks like. It should be something like this: * a small boot partition for GRUB * a larger EXT2/EXT2/Reiser partition for Linux (or up to three, depending if you have separate partitions for /home and scratch) * a larger NTFS partition for Windows 2 & 3 can be inside one big extended partition and they can be reversed in order (first Win, then Tux)
During Windows install, the NTFS partition needs to be active, so Windows doesn't notice the boot loader. Windows setup will actually activate the NTFS partition it installs to during the first phase of install. My guess is that that happened, and now you're trying to boot from the NTFS partition, but it's still empty...so put back the Windows install disc and make it through phase 1 (copying files) and then have it reboot like setup tells you to do for phase 2.

What happens if you remove the ntfs partition and then try again? Windows should try to make a new Win partition in the free space. It should regard the Tux partitions as allocated space with an unknown (or unix) file system.

If it doesn't work with gparted, then you're doing something wrong.

You may have to contact the admins of Windows in order to correct the error you have discovered in turning on your comp. I had this problem a year ago, and my wife was the first one who told me that my comp wasn't starting up the usual way. It would go to a different screen than the regular one that it goes to, I don't know why, but there must have been some virus that found its way into the format disk and made it disorderly.
It should be known that my brother, whom is returning back to the united states in a week, and who has lived in Japan for the last 3 years becoming a computer technician. He is actually an innovator of a number of priceless gadgets which even today are scarcely able to be found on the market, they are so rare and expensive that the only persons whom have ever even known about them are wealthy business men looking for something "special".
Well he's been working with a very technical crew located in Japan, but noone knows who they are or what they do. Supposedly they sell the gadgets they make to a bigger company than the one they are in, since the one they own is much smaller than the corporation they are linked to. The funny thing is that the gadgets they make are much more impressive than any of the ones that the corp have ever created, so the demand for them to constantly create more is always on them.
Hopefully you fix your comp I shall be anxiously anticipating the day you fix it!

Easy fix: Download DBAN (Daricks Boot and Nuke) and burn to a DVD.
DBAN your computer (this will erase everything) using the method that is specified for redeployment of windows computers. This might take a few hours, but once it's done just pop in your windows CD and you'll be good to go.
Also sometimes what can happen is if you install Linux along side windows, Linux's Grub loader takes over before the MBR (Master Boot Record) used to boot into windows. If you delete the Linux partition, or even the OS it can screw with Grub loader, and prevent you from getting into MBR.
Pop in your Windows disc, enter into repair mode, command prompt, and use the command "bootrec /FIXMBR"

Uh...yeah, or just run fdisk or gparted and wipe all partitions from the drive and don't bother with the hours and hours of wiping data...that's only necessary if you expect the CIA to barge in because you stored kiddy porn on your hdd.

So many dumb replies. It's an obvious case of Computer Aliens/Ghosts. Pour gas on your hard drive and set it ablaze.
Then just pray none of them escaped.

Sure there are plenty of more quick options to use, but I posted before OP said he couldn't reformat with NTFS. So if you can't do that, it would make sense to run DBAN.
Also DBAN doesn't take ages to do, and there's a mode specially used for redeployment, and reinstalation of Windows operating systems. So it's not only necessary if you want to get rid of kiddy porn.

TFW DBAN would've been quick

Rewriting random data several times on each sector of a big hard drive does take ages. OP was just finding that out, and that is even writing data only once on each position.
Besides, what makes DBAN so specifically suitable for Windows redeployment? I have a feeling that's just marketing crap.

Make sure you are very careful with partitioning, and deleting of partitions as GRUB loader takes presedence over the MBR.

Marketing for an open-source application? Sure I guess it's possible, but doesn't seem like it'd be worth their time.
It's a specific setting that is the bare minimum settings, pretty much one round, no other options as opposed tot he 35 passes, etc... of the other settings.
When you go to the option, it even says "Used for redeployment of Windows computers"
