Take a look at these... Definitely more orange than cubes I'm used to seeing, and they have more of a spicy smell also. Your thoughts are appreciated.

Did you buy those? What part of the world are you in? What colour are the gills?

Hi tangich,
The gills are the same brownish orange color as the stems (which are hollow). I'm afraid I don't have any info about where they grew but they were acquired in the mid-Atlantic and marketed as psychedelics.

Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly what they are, but I'm quite certain they are not psychoactive. It's still possible they are some kind of Gymnopilus, but I would recommend that you do not eat them.

They do look like they could possibly be some kind of Gymnopilus, but I wouldn't bet 5 dollars, let alone my or anyone else's life on that. On top of that active Gymnopilus species contain very little active compounds in comparison with Psilocybe cubensis. I would guess that's around 3 or 4 grams, which wouldn't be enough to make you trip if they end up being Gyms afterall.
So please don't eat them.

Thanks guys.
Pretty wrong - not to mention dangerous - for someone to sling bunk fungus if you ask me.

Of course they aren't P. cubensis. They could maybe be Gymnopilus, but I don't think they are. Surely, if they person you got them from can't tell you exactly what they are without being led to the name by you, consider them unidentified. If they tell you they are something they are clearly not; they are unreliable in one way or the other.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
