A Fine Night for "Cortin"
    #18998178 - 10/19/13 12:49 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Yeah, My apologies for the title. I was wasting too much time putting thought into something with minor relevance. ANYWAY....

This guy caught my attention today. I know it is a Cortinarius (Pers.).  I think it bares a striking resemblance to Cortinarius odorifer but I can not conclude that theory due to lack of information available. None have been reported in the US that I could find. Possible first? OR.... Am I subconsciously creating drama to keep things interesting? The world may never know.

Being slimy it may well be in Phlegmacium, or else Myxacium, but the European species you mentioned has a strong anise smell.

I will definitely research your proposals. Its possible I am in error. But I have to confess a small deception,or untruth, if you will. The cap is not constantly viscid. When I found it , it was so dry and unkempt that i had to give it a slight clean up before the photo shoot.
