Love instinct not emotion

My theory on love is that it is an instinct not an emotion. the difference between an emotion and an instinct are, instincts are automatic and not based on any form of reasoning. Emotions ore decided upon for example you have a reason to be angry or to be sad. How many times have you heard a person say I don't know why I love that man/women? I believe that its a basic instinct to ensure reproductive success and as a colonizing species we need to feel connected for survival. What makes us human is the ability to go against our basic instincts. If we change the perception of love to one of an instinct that would mean changing the method in which we respond to it. Thoughts on this anybody?

instinct and emotion seem like the same thing.. love is an emotion i would imagine, as well an instinct..
perhaps what we do have control over is how much of this emotion we will feel..
