I'm just wondering if for a beginner it'd be best to buy one just in case.
Just in case what? The only reasons I could see to possibly hold off on buying a pressure cooker is if you don't think you'll be moving on to working with grains or you think you'll be able to afford a better by the time you do. No need to rush to buy one just to do some PF jars if you're not even sure you'll be sticking with the hobby yet.

I can only do 9 in my presto 23 qt...if I try to add a third on top I cant get my lid to close.

If you are doing PF Tek then it is not necessary - you can normally boil the jars in water (for an hour and a half). Not a bad idea to get one if you have some extra cash though, especially if you move on to more advanced methods.

Are you using wide mouth quart jars or regular mouth?

i got a 16qt presto at walmart for fairly cheap and it works real well. id recommend getting one for sure. saves you the uncertainty of knowing whether or not your sterile procedures are really sterile too. its good to have a little extra confidence on the first grow (:

Wide. Guess that's why.
Well not exactly.
The wide mouth jars are a tiny bit shorter than the regular mouth jars.
In my mirro 22qt I can fit 7 wide mouth jars on the bottom, and 3 regular mouth jars(or 2 wide mouth jars) on top of those.
I would think the presto 23qt would have just a tad more room.

They all fit, but I have to "force" the 3rd on top to lay down all the way...but then I cant get the lid to close right. It may be possible but after fiddling with it for a few minutes with no luck I just said screw it and took the 3rd one out.

I already had a small pressure cooker from my first experiences and endevours, but I could only fit 4 1-Pint Jars inside and it wouldent even fit a single 1qt -
Waste of money, because even though I still do have it, this time I went ahead and bought a 23 qt, knowing full well I could've gotton by using the small one.
Its a matter of preference, and time / money management.

My All American 941 cooker cost about $400 and holds 19 quart jars.
Don't be afraid to buy a pressure cooker, they are one of the key
tools for this hobby.

If you are going to go all out on anything in this hobby, this is where it's at. I suggest the All American if you can afford it.

If i do find myself enjoying it as much as I think I will - I will purchase a pressure cooker like the one mentioned (All American 941) but until than the 23 QT Presto for 75$ will do just fine - but I still couldent imagine using a 8qt or something along those lines especially since they cost around 40-50 dollars I believe...
