Yellow Cap (pics)
    #18993856 - 10/18/13 01:14 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I'm a little confused about one pin that I have, he's got a pale yellow cap, and his bruising looks a bit greener than any other bruising (probably due to relative color differences, ex. the cap), and I was wondering if that could be a sign of contam, or more likely an abort (which I thought had black heads) or mutation? I'd snap a picture but the camera that I have right now is absolute shit and you can't really tell what this pin looks like because of it.

This is really one of those things we do need a picture for. Without one its impossible to determine what you've got going on.

These are the best I can do. The one I'm worried about is the smaller pin that looks like it has no color next to the larger fruit. The cap is slightly yellowish and either slightly bruised, or slightly molded. I'm starting to think it's just bruising because some of the older bruising on my cakes is starting to look greenish as well.

Edit: Oops, forgot to add the pictures.

They look ok to me. But anyway, if the little ones stop growing and the cap starts getting darker, then it's a sign of aborts. You should pic those asap.

Yeah I know what aborts look like, seen plenty of pictures of them; That's why I'm confused about this one though, it's cap has almost no color on top besides the yellow tinge, the bottom seems to be reddish though. Anyway I'll just keep on eye on him, make sure he isn't a Death Cap or anything!

Don't worry. You're growing cubensis. Amanitas phalloides aren't a domesticated specie

Haha well good to know I'm safe then. :P I was wondering, a couple of my shrooms have quite thin stems while some are very thick; Could this be a sign of uneven/not enough FAE, or is it just normal for there to be variance?

You've got a SGFC built to spec correct?

If so, just keep up your fanning/misting and it'll be fine. Just another lovely genetic difference.

Yeah I'm going to attribute the growth differences to genetics, cause they were still wonderful. :mushroom2: I ate about 8g wet and had quite a great first trip walking around down town. Tonight was certainly an amazing trip.

I wound up picking off the yellow capped mushroom just because it was starting to look very strange, and this is my first grow so I would rather play it safe than sorry. I took some tissue samples and threw them on agar, so hopefully in the days to follow we'll find out if I was right to remove the shroom, or if I acted prematurely.
