Flowhood Use Questions

I've searched around and cant find my exact answers i need.
1. If you dont have a small clean room to use with the seriesI flowhood is it ok to just use in the kitchen on the table?
2. If used in the kitchen should an actual hood be installed that comes like 8" off the front of the box to control the flow better?
3. If used in a kitchen should the heat/AC be turned off so there isnt other strong air currents in the house?
Thanks a bunch

1: Yes, it is OK to do so, but please sure your sterile technique is well. I reccomend you do this in a small room or closet, however. 2. No. This is not needed as the filter should produce laminar flow anyhow. You will only be working within a few inches from the filter itself, so you will not need a hood to channel air.
3.Yes, turn off the AC or tape your vents shut. Better safe than sorry.
I also recommend that you run the hood for two hours to clean the air in the room prior to using it for your work. This eliminates most airborne contaminates and helps if you slip up a little bit on sterile procedure.

1. Kitchen is like the worst spot besides the bathroom, and don't use it near any doors that could open leading outside.
2. I would. Definitely can't hurt. The purpose of the flowhood is having one direction of sterile airflow. If you don't have a hood and you catch a gust from the side, you might have screwed yourself. Not a chance worth taking if it takes an addition 5 minutes to make a hood, ya know?
3. AC off. All doors locked so no one will interrupt, and no outside wind gusts swirling in. Your flowhood should have enough current to fight off other gusts, but try to keep other people out of the area.

Never attempt sterile work in a kitchen. It's the nastiest room in the house, even worse than a bathroom which is the second nastiest place. Use a small room or closet with all doors closed and fans off. If you have no such place, simply get some PVC pipe and plastic sheeting to close off a small area in which to work and run the flowhood. RR

So tried this thing in all the ways that should be wrong.
I used my coffee table worked in living room and sat on my couch. Didnt attach a hood to the box. I hadn't showered in a couple days. I turned off my central air but only ran the flowhood for an hour to clean room. Wearing dirty cloths no tyvek sleeves but using latex gloves and surgical mask.
All the parent & receiving petri dishes are satellite colony free at day 5 and growing great! I LOVE MY FLOWHOOD!!
Question:How hot to the touch does the cage fans motor get? Mine was really almost to hot to touch so 'im curious about my prefilter being to resistant. The flow still blows out a lighter up close.
