Chaga confusion

Hey guys, i was out Chaga hunting today and found a birch tree with what i was completely sure was Chaga. It had all the characteristics i had read about, but when i came home and double checked it seemed there was some differences which made me a bit unsure.
When still attached to the birch tree it looked just like this: http://www.lamahi.nl/engels/index_photos/IndexB/Birch_Conk.htm
There were also four white birch polypores growing on same stem.
Some of the pieces were very easy to remove, just a few hits with a small hatchet. But some of the other ones were really hard, and i had to go get a saw. The outside layer is just like the picture in the link above, and under that is an orange middle layer.
But inside i'm having a hard time differentiating between what i assumed was Chaga and birch wood. In the pictures i see on the net it's mainly orange but this is a light tan color and even white someplaces. The outer chaga bark also seem different.
Some of the pieces feel like cork, and are very light. Some feel more like wood to me, and are rather heavy relative to the cork pieces.
I uploaded some pictures to Imageshack here: http://imageshack.us/g/542/6p0q.jpg/
Thanks!

Some of your photos look like Chaga.... and some are hard to understand what I'm looking at.
Can you separate what you know to be Chaga and photograph that? The rest that you aren't sure about in another photo? I can't tell which mushroom photos belong together.

Chaga has been used for several things...I do believe it is most used to help fight off auto immune disorders and even some cancers. I take the tincture for RA...have had no luck finding any in SC Pa.on the black birch trees even though I found some gnarly black growths that looked like it from the exterior...it just turned out to be a mutation of the normal grain. I do believe it is more prominent on the white and yellow species in the more northern states and canada.
Next spring, I am planning a fishing trip in Northern areas where there are a lot of white birch and I will be looking for it.
Also, the birch polypore is prominent in my region and can be used as a temporary bandage, if sliced thinly while the fungus is still new or can be used as a fire starter when dried....Otzi the iceman (the frozen dude from 3500- BC had some in a bag on his possesion.

I don't see chaga in those pictures. The outer part is blacker than that. I think that may be a burl or something.
