What about that video suggests to you that it's not a flare drop?

Just do some basic research into the event rather than going off your gut feelings.
There were actually 2 sightings that night, one of a wedge shaped craft and later, when everyone was stirred up and had their cameras ready, the one in the video you posted occured.
Quote:
The U.S. Air Force explained the second event as slow-falling, long-burning LUU-2B/B illumination flares dropped by a flight of four A-10 Warthog aircraft on a training exercise at the Barry Goldwater Range at Luke Air Force Base. According to this explanation, the flares would have been visible in Phoenix and appeared to hover due to rising heat from the burning flares creating a "balloon" effect on their parachutes, which slowed the descent.[22] The lights then appeared to wink out as they fell behind the Sierra Estrella, a mountain range to the southwest of Phoenix.
Quote:
Military flares[25][26] such as these can be seen from hundreds of miles given ideal environmental conditions. Later comparisons with known military flare drops were reported on local television stations, showing similarities between the known military flare drops and the Phoenix Lights.[4][5] An analysis of the luminosity of LUU-2B/B illumination flares, the type which would have been in use by A-10 aircraft at the time, determined that the luminosity of such flares at a range of approximately 50–70 miles would fall well within the range of the lights viewed from Phoenix.[19]
It's fairly obvious to me that whatever the first object was, it was really something "unidentified" and either by coincidence or on purpose (to muddy the water concerning the first sighting) the military dropped flares. There is nothing extraordinary about the video you posted that suggests those lights are part of a solid craft. They behave exactly like flares would, appearing one by one along a lateral line, falling and blinking out in the same order...

it can be a very terrifying and strange thing for someone to encounter something they define as "alien". we relate to the world through things we can understand and comprehend through language. "this is a table, this is a cat, this is water" etc.
when you encounter something which you can not define, you automatically label it as something separate from yourself, at least until you understand what it is. but do we really understand what anything is? what the fuck is a cat? what is an elbow? what is anything, really? apart from what we call it?
an alien is just that. alien. we have no idea what it is. so, when encountering one, we shuffle around to find definitions for it. and when our attempts fail, we're only left with disbelief at what we're witnessing, and overtaken by our feeble mind's lack of ability to interpret such occurrences.
there are many strange things in this world. we shelter ourselves from the strangest of things, so when we finally come face-to-face with something REAL STRANGE, we're left not knowing what to do or what to believe or anything. this can be terrible and frightening to some. but remember that no matter what you experience, it is all being processed through your mind. everything you experience will always be a reflection of you, and however you define it will be how YOU are defining it, not anyone else.

TheStormsEye said: So I have somewhat as a kid and growing up believed in the idea of aliens and ufo's and stuff like like that. I have this friend that is like a brother to me, known him for like 8-9 yrs now. One of the smartest guys I know, and doesn't even have a HS diploma (he's like 28 now).
After I knew him for maybe 4 yrs he had an "encounter" with a non-human being in the mountains late at night with another friend. He changed almost completely after this. Was all paranoid and shit and having bad dreams that were extremely vivid. He only tells people that he trusts about the experience.. At the time, and now, I have genuine belief in what happened to him.
Even if I didn't belive him then, years down the line, I have experienced things with this guys that I can hardly explain. very stange things have been happening to him ever since, at home and at his job.. I honestly think "they" are following him or monitoring him or something weird like that He tells me that the only way he can fall asleep every night is to tell himself that if they want him at any time, they can get him because nothing is truly solid. And he's a big ass dude (like 270 6'2") strong as hell..
what are your thoughts on ufo's aliens/inter-dimesional beings?
Most people do believe in extra terrestrials although they might not call them such. Religious call extraterrestrial entities gods or angels, as they are not from Earth they meet the strict definition. But they get angry if you tell them they're going to church to worship their extraterrestrial god. Scientists generally accept that the universe is vast and life too common for there not to be extraterrestrials although they are loath to discuss them for fear of their reputations being damaged by association with the crackpot fringe. ETs are basicly something everyone believes in but almost no one will discuss, its a taboo for some reason. Regards.
