A few questions relating to monotubs
    #18993773 - 10/18/13 12:25 AM (11 years, 3 months ago)

1) How will I know when my jars are fully colonized? Do they have to be completely white on all sides with mycelium, so that you can't see any other color?

2) I want to use this tutorial to create a monotub from spawn: http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17332777#17332777
I have 15 1/2 pint jars (250 ml each), what sort of size should I be looking at?

3) Is light pink of any of the mycelium something to be concerned about?

This is what a fully colonized jar will look like

Yes that is good info for monotubs.. anything from frank is good info.

Pink is most likely contamination. Can you post a pic?

im also headed in the monotub direction but recently I had all 7 of my jars (rye seed)stop colonizing all at once. I'm suspecting a humidity problem since they all stalled at once. How do I fix this?

Shake them up and see if they recover. If they don't toss them and start over

You do have a filtered lid to provide gas exchange right?

no those in particular are not filtered. But they are receiving fresh air.

1. Yes, fully colonized means fully white.

2. I would use a 56qt tub, or right around there....follow the tek.

3. Yes, pink is bad.

That is bad.....there has to be some kind of filter....the dry verm layer is the filter.

Up top, under your username, it says pics, click it then click upload.

It will give you a code for each pic once uploaded.

Post that code here.

So here is what I have so far: I Innoc these jars about a day ago following the tek more closely this time around providing some type of FAE and filtering, I used self healing Innoc points to minimize contam. The 4 jars on the left have no FAE will this be a problem?

I bought a timer as I am planning to fully automate my Monotub.

Since this is a monotub post, I have decided to include some of my monotub ideas for my grow.

This timer will turn on and off my fan as well as my humidifier. It will do so a certain amt of times a day for a designated amt of time.
So far I plan to have it run every 12 hours for 15 min intervals.

The humidifier will provide fresh air as well as humidity while the fan will blow old air out simultaneously. there will be a hepa filter behind the fan in order to keep contamination out.
I plan to mount the humidifier at the top of the tub and the fan on the other side right above the casing layer.

My Humidifier

Monotubs are self sustaining set n forget type ststems, meaning no humidification or fans are needed.

Just the moist substrate in a tub with a few holes strategically placed stuffed a certain way with polyfill for optimum airflow.

no misting or fanning at all for the whole fruiting process?
