Been digging through old photos from when I first started hunting, before I knew much of anything about what I was finding... I wanted to get some opinions on this one...

On a hardwood?

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it. If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Unfortunately I am not sure.. I would have to revisit the location.. just looking at the bark I suspect its a young bay laurel... I wish I had taken better pictures of the habitat
Ill have to revisit this spot.

I agree. Leaf litter adjacent to the tree looks like eucalyptus, but the tree does not. There is also another, much broader deciduous leaf beneath, in the lower right of the first picture.
I can't see any needles nearby at all.

Yeah, I saw the eucalyptus, but the tree is definitely not... in the first picture there is almost what looks like green bay leaves sparsely on a branch... the area is mixed evergreen forest intertwined amongst a large landscaped city park... there are many hard and soft woods there, some pretty old, some new...

Cool! Its morphology looks similar to Laricifomes officinalis, but that one only grows on conifers I'm pretty sure...
Not sure how many polypores have a growth form like that though
