I believe this to be a small flush of Gymnopilus penetrans...

I am going to tell this story with little detail as possible. Found this little grouping last night while hunting bio-luminescent fungi.

I investigated last night on the specimen and temporarily concluded on G. penetrans. I decided against spore printing last night for the sake of a possible cultivation experiment with the undamaged and thriving specimens. With a limited amount of time against me, I returned to spot today. In my haste to get out there and make the most of thirty minutes, I left my camera battery in the charger and the memory card in the computer. So unfortunately, no habitat shots for today. Check out my homemade mushroom basket. It stores, transports, disperses spores and (hopefully) dehydrates all-in-one! Made out of screen from an old storm door.

This is my rigged up drying method. Fan in window drawing air out. Ceramic heater blowing hot air through basket to draw fan. (We have no oven. and no, it is not as sad as it may sound.) If anyone sees a better "set-up" with what I am working with, I am open to suggestions and guidance. I know... That is off topic. I plan to properly "go through the motions."

OH! Almost forgot! I have three different caps that have been printing for almost an hour. They need more time I am sure. That is when I plan to lift the "Temporary" labeling.

nice.
however, you do realize that even if they are G. penetrans (which may be a long-shot), they are not active. even if they are not G. penetrans, they are not active.
they are interesting though... as long as you are drying them, want to send me some??

Well hell. I read documentation last night stating that they WERE active. But I can not find that literature now for nothing! Very aggravating. Something along the lines of they were NOT active on west coast but DEFINITELY were in the east. I do not have enough facts about the subject to warrant a rebuttal. So on THAT note, I am going to chalk this up to a dehydration experiment, (which seems to be working GREAT! BTW) and roll on to whatever next adventure holds in store. Thanks for your info. Getting sick is not on my To-Do list.

is that a space heater or a fan? if it's a heater, I'd switch to a fan for actives.

It is a ceramic heater with fan built in. But evidently there isn't any fear of destroying psyclobin tonight. I know I read that these were active. And it was apparently a very convincing read or I would not have worked so hard today to make a thirty minute hunt. Oh well,if THIS is all I had to worry about, I would be doing DAMN good.
