frustrated
    #18991144 - 10/17/13 02:10 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

well, it has been almost three weeks since i ordered spores from ... a certain company that is to not be named... and i havent seen any mycelium. none. i am new to this and i am already frustrated and disheartened. i am very familiar with sterile technique and its importance. i also know that patience is important and that i am trying to be patient but three weeks doesnt seem like a normal time to not have ANY growth at all. i am trying 9 different strains. i have even been inoculating with 5mL per jar. i think i have read every TEK and watched every video on getting started and i cant understand why it isnt moving along any faster...or at all for that matter. their environment seems to be what everybody is talking about. good air exchange, 76F constant. i have read a bunch of awful reviews on ... a certain company that is to not be named... and people praising ... companies i didnt use... so i went ahead and ordered from both of them today. i also ordered some agar supplies so i can see if there are even any spores in the syringes that i bought from ... a certain company that is to not be named.... should i just be ordering prints cause then ill know that ill have spores? i havent read anywhere that mycelium growth will take three weeks or more without any signs of growth. is it possible that there will be mycelium growth? will it just magically appear after a certain time. should i just toss them and start over?

i dont want to give up. any advice?

Remove the vendors from your post and use a shroomery sponsor next time.

Good luck.

Right off the bat I can tell you that we do not..EVER...list vendor names in ANY of our posts!  Big mistake. Please take the time to read the rules.

Secondly, you didn't say if you did your spores to BRF cakes, or grain, or what...so it's impossible, at least for me...to give any advice or feedback.  And, pics always help.

Good luck.

Moderator edit: It doesn't do any good to tell someone not to name a vendor if you quote the post in yours.  He can't edit that out.

And you probably shouldn't quote his post and not edit out the vendor names out of it.

Three weeks since you ordered is not the same as three weeks since inoculation, which is what's important.

24 days since spores arrived and 22 days since inoculation. is it normal to have no mycelial growth whatsoever?

Did you let your jars cool before inoculating them?

yeah. i let them cool overnight just like in the video i bought from RR. im telling you, i followed his technique to the last degree. the place i bought the spores from doesnt really have a good rep here so im thinking it is the spores. should i just throw it all out and start over? right now i am just out time and $100 for the spores. i really just want to enjoy the fuits of my labor. i bought more 2 spore syringes from a sponsor today. i was gonna give it one more go and then just say screw it.

If you're using multiple syringes and still see no growth then its most likely an inhospitable substrate for whatever reason.

I wouldn't throw them out yet. Patience padawan.

i bought 9 different strains. i really just wanted to get a whole array of them so i could see which ones grew best and which ones felt bet. i just figured that if i was going to jump into this then i might as well go in the deep end instead of dipping a toe in the baby pool. looks like i just picked the wrong vendor and that was my down fall. i dont mind the $100. i just wish i had the prep time and past three nonproductive weeks back. i just want results.
