Last Dance with Mary Jane
    #18991051 - 10/17/13 01:52 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Hey yall,

So I've been smoking weed since I was 16 or 17 years old. I've been going steady at a pretty high level for about 2 years. But I think its time to put down my old friend.

Weed is amazing. It really is. It cures my hangover, helps me think of creative ideas, improves my guitar playing, etc. Plus I love being high. But munchies aren't fun. Neither is demotivation, mental addiction, and a constant cough.

When I was 18, I was in the best shape. I was fit, could do anything athletic, and had a positive outlook on life. Now, only after a dozen or two months, I find it hard to maintain physical shape with my smoking habits. I'm not fat at all, but I just could be so much more.

Anybody wanna try quitting with me? Trust me, it'll be hard for a week or two, and then there shall be clarity!

I quit a few months ago and I'm very glad that I did. I rarely want to smoke it but when I do I really desire it. I just can't stand the unmotivated, lazy gluttonous thing I become on most strains. PS. Go check out my threads in the music part of the shroomery. I'm a new guitarist.

Anyways, I miss cannabis but it gave me bad anxiety so it was easy to quit. Ill smoke again one day but it'll never be a habit again, maybe a rare occurrence or possibly an occasional fling. Never a everyday thing again, fuck that. I gained twenty pounds in muscle, lost my cough, more confident and outgoing, all this good shit thanks to giving it up.

Good luck, bro.

Some people can do that I sometimes wish I could but fuck it, sobriety ain't half bad, it gives you options. Like when to do other drugs, haha.

I think confidence is another point that I forgot to touch on...it's so true that cannabis can sometimes make me shy and non-sociable. Thanks for the vibes!

I know how you feel man, but how about you take a different approach to your smoking habits...

I've smoked for the past few years myself. I've been pretty high. :P Sometimes my "habit" gets a bit out of hand, but other than that it doesn't usually affect my daily life too much. I still do my normal stuff, I just have a different perspective while doing it. Or time goes by faster/slower etc...

I was thinking about quitting but then I decided something else. Instead of smoking all the time, limit yourself. Like for me, I limited myself to only smoking once a day. I take care of all my responsibilities, and then take 5-HTP  (helps for the production of seratonin) a couple hours prior to smoking at night. I read somewhere that it increases a marijuana high and produces more vivid dreams - IME, both are fucking true. :smirk: I only need to smoke 1/2-1 bowl (on my pipe) to get as high as 2-3 bowls. It works out amazingly. Sometimes I'll meditate or make some music, or mess around with photoshop...

I've also started running again with a friend. I love smoking, the only reason I'd quit is for a drug test. Otherwise, why not? Everyone has their own little activities they do to make them feel at peace, or relaxed. Whether it be hobbies, beer, meditation...

But that's just how I feel

That's probably the one thing I hate about weed, social anxiety. It happens to me around most people however I get loose as fuck around the right personir group but that's rare as fuk too.

I get social anxiety when I'm not high enough. :P

When I get past that threshold, I just adopt more of a "fuck it" attitude and I don't mind too much what other people might think. If I'm just a little high, I tend to be a little more introspective and quiet.

I don't know, it's sort of hard to explain actually. There's just too many variables to my social anxiety lol

Smoking no more than once a day was the best decision I ever made regarding Cannabis, besides deciding to exclusively vape. I haven't used Cannabis in several weeks and I didn't even realize it. I have been using Cannabis for years and at one point was able to tank several brownies made with oil that was extracted from half a pound of trim. Moderation should be a golden rule because moderation with anything is important. There is such a thing as too much of a good thing and it's called drowning.

I have been smoking weed pretty much every single day for the past 4 years. I only smoke at night or when I'm at home pretty much.. I avoid smoking before I go out into public or when I'm out in public because it just makes me kind of awkward and shy. I tend to get social anxiety when I'm stoned around lots of people/people I don't know. It never used to be that way for me. When I first started smoking weed I could be in public around anybody and it made me even more sociable if anything...but now it does the opposite. I wonder why that changed..I actually think it makes me more motivated to do stuff though. I love cleaning when I'm stoned.

Good luck with quitting, hope you find clarity and get your motivation back.

Thanks for all the support. Although I think some people can monitor their smoking, I'm kind of an "all or nothing" guy. It's bad for sure, but it's true. Even if I keep smoking as a rare occurrence, it'll make its way to a bad habit over time.

I am quitting edibles, no more EDIBLES.

I really don't like edibles, had some the other night... I didn't feel good high, just tired lethargic and couldn't focus on anything.

I want to quit drinking, my last shroom trip was a fucking introspective one that really made me consider how bad alcohol consumption is for me. It's such a social thing though it's fucking hard to give up :frown:

You have to be self-motivating because weed will (naturally) take it away if you aren't careful.  I love what it does for my headaches and to relax me enough that I can go to sleep.  Awesome!

its really easy to do if you have hobbies, have a nice mushroom trip and that'll put you on the right path for a break. buy a bike, start cycling.
take up fishing, take up gardening which is cooler than you'd think. take up anything that interests you. Reading is great and so is meditation.

I don't smoke much now maybe a small joint once every 2 weeks but I when I was in my early 20s I smoked every day . I use to wake and bake on weekends and I got to a point where I started taking weed to work on a Friday to sort of start the weekend .

I quit for 2 years and went out one night a someone was smoking outside a bar and offered me a few hits and that reminded me how much I use to enjoy weed before I abused it in my youth . I also think you need the right weed for the occasion . Indica for bedtime and sativa for a sneaky joint on a night out .

I wish you the best of luck with quitting , The hardest part for me was friends as they all still smoked when I packed in . I would smell that sweet M.J and want it so bad . I think this goes for all drugs , moderation and respect for the drug itself .

OP ...The good thing about quitting weed is there are no withdrawals...so you can quit as many times as you want. That said, I got the same effects that you spoke of ...and, eventually just got tired of the social anxiety and lack of motivation...that was over 30 years ago and I have not looked back....I've never missed it.

I think it affects some people differently, like some don't get that anxiety that I got so it would be different for them. This is a personal choice based on my reaction to it...don't let other people tell you that you should be able to smoke it because they only know how it affects them....not you.:sunny::peace:M

Its good you stopped now man and realized it wasn't helping. Hell, you could of ended up like me, smoking 2g's of BHO a day. Luckily i built my life around the addiction and work/own a  concentrate extraction lab so I can take my work home with me.

good luck man, quitting is a bitch for about 4 days, then its smooth sailing from there (only minus the unconditional love of your forever friend who wants more than anything to get back into your lungs)
