Last minute questions
    #18990343 - 10/17/13 10:50 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I've read through many guides and watched many videos and everything is mostly explained except for a few things. Do I need complete darkness during colonization or should I give it light 12/12? (It's in a closet and it's getting cold here so it would keep it warmer?)
Also, should I get a humidifier for fruiting? I'm planning on using perlite and misting when I can but I know that they need high humidity so should I go out and buy one?
Thanks!

12/12 is good for all stages fruiting and colonization. Light is not a main pinning trigger.

Room temperature is just fine. If you want to be inside then they do too. If it's going below 60-62F in your house then maybe think about incubation.

Only if you're going to keep it on the other side of the room that has your SGFC do not attach it to the SGFC or keep it very close. If your RH in your house is below 30-40 then you may benefit from having one running in your home.

If you make your SGFC properly and exactly to specifications it will give you the humidity you need.

I type slow, :whathesaid:

Colonizing with a 12 / 12 light cycle is becoming the norm, if the temps in your fruiting chamber range between 70 and 75 fahrenheit, a properly built SGFC with regular misting and fanning should retain just the right amount of humidity via the perlite.

Alright, thanks for the info! I'll get a thermometer and hygrometer and see if I'll need one or not

Wow, hopefully this incoherent mess of consonants and vowels doesn't end up being expected from your posts. You can also make your own thread to ask a question. It's appreciated, if you do decide to make your own topic, that you gather your thoughts into a well organized question and make sure that it hasn't been answered already by using the search engine.

I don't know where on here you would have found someone saying not to let water touch the cakes after birthing.

Watch this please.
Yes always dunk cakes 12-24 hours and then roll them in verm before placing them into a properly built SGFC ontop of a small piece of foil.

Careful most cheap hygrometers are complete shit and will give you false readings. Your best bet is to get one for a cigar box, an analog one of good quality. Then calibrate that and use it. Anything you buy at a pet store is going to be garbage, anything at a hardware store by the thermometers will also probably be garbage too.

If your house is too dry you'll always be getting shocks from static electricity and your clothes will feel static too often times. Otherwise you're probably fine and all you need is a well built SGFC 2 inch apart 1/4" holes on all 6 sides in a grid pattern with 4-6 inches of moist perlite.

Alright man thanks for the heads up, I appreciate it
This has been costing me a little more than expected just because of a few things that I didn't have around the house like a drill, coffee grinder, ect but now that I'm this far I might as well get a good hygrometer and thermometer to ensure the best results possible
