Growing off the end of an old log on the forest floor. Another bright red (red as a cardinal) mushroom growing off the same log. Some wild wood ears also in the area. Will post pictures.
-------------------- I'd hit it.

Our prime suspect
Further back
Coming out of the same log. Younger Lion's Mane? Different fungus?
On the bottom left of this photo we can see the red shroom I mentioned. It's in a shadow here, so it looks dim, but it's a very bright, pretty red.
Different log, covered in Wood Ears.

Mycelium showing on the Wood Ear log.
Another interesting guy growing on the same log as the Wood Ears.

-------------------- I'd hit it.

Nice pics. The last shrooms look like Polyporus Squamosus.

Ooooh! Ooooh!! OOOOOHHHHH!!!!! Clone the Hericium! Clone that bitch!!!!
I found one but was a retard and ate the whole thing without thinking.
BTW...when cooking them, slice them and put them in stir-fry or poach them. They're not very good cooked in butter. They have a very substantial texture that's prone to getting rubbery--kind of like sea scallops.

Totally! I don't find nearly enough of these. To be totally fair, I almost never find them but they people I take hunting sometimes do. I would love to culture them on logs of blocks out doors. I lost all of my culture stock and regret it terribly.

I'm wondering whether or not PF tek with sawdust would work very well. RR was growing lion's mane indoors in one of his videos, I don't remember at the moment which method he had used. I think he was using indoor-mushroom culture though. These are wild so I'm having visions of the laundry basket.
