sgfc conditions. not to sure if this is right. where's the pros?!
    #18986318 - 10/16/13 01:57 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

I have pics in ny gallery. I posted one in a different thread.

Is it supposed to be steamy inside? Its not. It feels kinda muggy when open the chamber.

The perlite is moist.  There is water on the foil that never really evaporates. Cakes felt kinda wet but I misted em because they should never dry out right?

Only using a 5000k light. As close to 12/12 as I can.

home stays around 70-75 degrees fahrenheit and drops to around 67 at night. Its a cool 70-75 as well

How often do you fan if it is  still moist or damp? Could ya possibly only mist  once a day because the water on my foil? Chamber has been up since sunday night

No its not supposed to be steamy inside, high rh doesnt produce mist. It would be steamy if the RH (relative humidity) would go over 100% . if you made your sgfc properly u have nothing to worry about. Of course water wont evaporate if the air around is saturated with so much water, logic. mist&fan ye. temperature and light arent very important, there are other thing you should worry about. and last thing, use search engine and read a lot because many peple had same problems like u do and answers like this has been answered milion times. nevertheless, good luck!

How about the spoon of verm on top then add a spoon of water? Is that to induce pins or do it after they pin and not mist as much

I've done so much searching you get twenty differant answers.

So I should fan more? Mist a little less for a day or two?

Everyone's so quick to tell someone about the search engine instead of answering questions.

wtf?
rh over 100%?

you should use the search function before posting that as advice.
condensation comes from a temperature differential.
the hotter inside will condensate because the air gets colder at the box' surface as the exterior of the box is colder than the interior.
Hotter air can hold more water than cold air can, and the air can no longer hold the same amount of water.
it then gives away this water as condensation on the box' surface.

The sgfc has holes all over and no temp. difference and thus no condensation.
You should only mist the cakes when they don't glisten any longer.
They need to be able to evaporate off the surface water before you mist again.
this evaporation is your no 1 pinning trigger.
you misting too often is therefore most likely the reason you don't get pins.
Fan out the fc and let the cake stop glistening before you mist lightly until they glisten.
fan out the chamber after you mist.

edit: just read you birthed the cakes on sunday. that's only 3-4 days,
be patient.

just to be clear, the cakes need to dry up from time to time.
mist and fan as needed, which will most likely be 2-4x a day.

I don't even see condensation. Water from spraying disappears from the walls. which I take is good.. but the walls def dry out

So fan more often a bit is what I'm getting from ya. 2-3 hours every?

Yes it is built correct

Mist and then fan 2-4 times a day. That's it.

The big question here is did you consolidate for a week? The number 1 pinning trigger is full colonization of the available substrate. If you did not consolidate you could be waiting a while to see pins. Overmisting will waterlog the cakes preventing pinning. Too much fanning will dry them out preventing pinning. Checking every ten min to see if they pinned will make you crazy. Just spark a spliff, crack a beer and chill the fuck out.

There should be no condensation in a SGFC, and the water that hits the walls from you misting the cakes should dry up in a couple hours.

If it does not then your chamber is not getting sufficient FAE.

Mist the cakes directly with a fine mist until they glisten, fanning out the chamber after each misting.

Mist again once the water you previously applied has evaporated, followed by more fanning.

We mist the cakes to replace lost moisture, we fan out the chamber to promote evaporation of the water we just misted.

Condensation simply means the temperature of the terrarium walls is equal to or below the dewpoint of the air within.

There should never be condensation on the walls of a shotgun terrarium.  In fact, it would be darned near impossible since the holes equalize temps between the terrarium interior and the room it's sitting in.

Don't mist too often.  Make sure the cakes dry out between misting sessions.  Unless you're in a desert or very cold climate with heat running in the house, you won't need to mist more than a couple times daily.
