what the fuck is happening?
    #18988903 - 10/16/13 11:00 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Yawn right now or swallow some air like you're gonna fake burp. When you do these two things you feel that pressure building in your ears right? And that noise that it sounds like is really what i'm trying to describe. Kinda like you'r ears are trembling.

Ok so i've been trying at astral projection through lucid dreaming (i've done it multiple times before) and i know that there's the buzzing sensation that fills my ears when my body enters sleep mode, followed by floating sensation, senseless thoughts then dream, then if i can guide it right astral projection (usually an odd obe).

Recently however instead of that noise being a kind of trembling sound (think free falling and hearing the wind) it's been a noise that happens all at once. It's literally the noise i imagine you hear when an ear drum bursts. Back when it wasn't this violent sound, i focused on my breathing so much that i'd wake myself up. So now when i hear the burst i try and let go and just drift, but the weird thing is, ill start feelimg suffocated, and wake up gasping for air, and it's literally like i just swam from the bottom of a swimming pool. Is this like sleep apnea, or some sort of sleep paralysis?

It really only happens if i pay attention as i drift into sleep, vs. Just passing the fuck out. (I lie on my back when i attempt projections, and take a little longer to actually fall asleep vs. Just laying comfortably) I would ask my doctor, about it but then the simple solution would be to just fall asleep, but then i'd miss out on what's been for the last like three weeks, remembering what i dreamt about every night (and man are the dreams nuts).

The biggest wrench that makes it harder for me is that i have so many vivid waking dreams, maybe i'm dreaming about suffocating? Idk what are your thoughts? Does any of this describe a sleep disorder i haven't heard of?

Well i'll leave the description up there for anyone else who googles similar symptoms, but if this describes you as perfectly as me you have, and i'm not even joking (god the name makes me to scred to sleep now) EXPLODING HEAD SYNDROME. Jesus i can't think of a scarier name to something that's completely harmless.

It can be caused by long legnths of fatigue (my situation two jobs full time at school), or sudden withdrawal from benzo's or ssri's. And obe's are a common report, and even though this sounds way more hypochonriactastic, people sometimes see a flashimg light which they report as a start to their sleep cycle. After reading this i do remember a couple times where i had a wakimg dream, i had my eyes closed as i lay asleep, and saw a light in my eyelids, so bright i opened them. I lay there in my room on my back lookimg at the ceiling and BANG. I wake up later and i was asleep on my stomach the whole time. Hopefully this shit doesn't fuck with my sleeping anymore than it already has, i gotta work at 5 in the morning and i don't have time for this bullshit.

Well chill a bit you will sleep:lol:
I have read that sometimes people experience a large snap during OBE's usually on return so maybe you lift off and snap back real quick.

Have you tried ear breathing? Like when you go to yawn and you hear that crackle in your ears you just stay in that spot and try not to yawn and breath trough your nose you will hear the breath loud in your head.

If it really messes with you see the doc.

Weird. I've not done much lucid dreaming, but I've had weird sounds like you describe when breaking through on large doses of mushrooms. It's like the sound of the fabric of reality being torn to pieces. Or sometimes a really loud sonic boom.

Maybe take a break from the LD? Or just space it out a bit? Or maybe you're about to break through into something for all I know.

Does it seem like a physical sensation? Do you notice it in waking life as well as LD?

OP do you have any good tips for astral projection!?  I can't seem to get it down.  I almost did, I seen myself get up off the couch and walk a little then i woke up to the word "BOOM". (deep type voice from my mind (hypnagogia, which is probably what your experiencing) said this exactly at the point I woke up).  Don't be afraid of it, embrace it.  It's just your body getting ready for sleep mode and your spirit is getting ready to leave your body for astral projection.

Any good tips you could recommend??

this sounds like night terrors. it also sounds like a possible inner ear/equilibrium problem. first thing we learned in school- dont tell/advise/advocate patients to use webMD or other websites to diagnose themselves. the reason being is that it freaks them out, just like it did to you. only your physician will be able to tell you whats going on but night terrors are pretty common and can be very scary and disturbing for people to experience.

just try not to medicate yourself with too many things or try different "remedies" together. a lot of herbal remedies and over the counter drugs are dangerous when used in conjunction with one another and especially with big pharm meds, be careful.

I've never done dmt, but everything i've read about it makes it sound like an instant astral projection. I try and explain this to friends who have done dmt, and as soon as i mention that it involves dreaming at some point they instantly jump and say no it's nothing like that, which is funny because i've yet to meet someone who has experienced both, that can actually make the comparison. They say that there's the whole mindfuck element to it, which yeah, ok, but i've had dreams, within dreams within trips, within dreams, which are a headfuck, way more intense than any trip i've seen any of these people experience. I mean i don't know what goes through their heads while tripping, but they've always been more coherent than me after waking from that multi-layered trip dream, which i was sober for.

Anyone ever experience astral projection, and dmt, that can make a comparison?

Setting an alarm five hours after you go to sleep helps a ton. Get up and walk around for like fifteen minutes, then go lay on you'r back. When you're laying still, you'll feel an itch creep up on you, this is your bodies way of seeing if your asleep before it enters paralysis. Don't move a muscle, and you'll either slip right into a dream, or start up the AP process.

If you slip right into a dream, try and realize this and just focus on getting a third person point of view. If you can do this you'll have the obe, then you just have to focus on going up and up, and clear your head of any expectations. You'll go where you'll go and it will be better than any place you could plan out in your head.

The actual AP process in my experience starts by laying still and breathing through my nose. I'll stare into a blank void and space out, next thing i know i'll be thinking without any real reason for the thouhts.

Example being the other day, for some reason i just randomly had some thoughts about zombies? I'm not a zombie fan. Anyway when you start relaxing the itch will come up. If you don't move and space right yiu'll feel a weight being applied to your limbs, and start working it's way in. It's an almost opiating sensation.

After your whole body feels this way it's very easy to just move your eyes while closed and imagine yourself, floating in any direction. This is your body attempting to create a dream. The goal is to stay semi conscious in this state.

Next thing you know it'll be like you're free falling or on a roller coaster, rapidly deteriorating.

Just hang on and on't twitch, and next thing you know you're just there.

That I can! I've been experiencing Astral Projection since I was a small child, but nowadays it's much more of an art form and an exercise than it was back then.

As for the difference between the two:

Every OBE I've had on DMT was much more intense than a self induced Astral Projection. The drug plays with your mind a bit, so Ego Loss is something to expect. Also, because it launches you into an OBE so quickly, you don't have much (or any) control over where you are travelling. And when I say it launches you, it truly does. You get thrown into the farthest depths of our universe, and then spit into another dimension of reality.

Now as far as my Astral Projection OBE's have gone, those were much more tame. I would awake in my bed, hop out, and realize that my body was still in bed. My room always looks as it usually does, but with more of an HD effect on my vision and senses (except that of sound, I hear no sounds after the intense buzzing before I eject from my body) After that, I usually put an intention into my head, mostly where I would like to travel to. From there I just bounce around the place, trying to explore what I can.

Another thing I wanted to mention to you LuSiD is that I too have awoken with that feeling of not being able to breathe. Most of the time it was in relation to sleep paralysis. I, or my subconsciousness, would notice that I couldn't feel my chest rising, and my instincts would kick in and I'd begin gasping. It was only after a few more Astral Projection sessions that I realized what was going on, and I had to let my body go. Since then I always acknowledge to myself that I will lose sensation in my body, and that it is nothing to fear.
