Habitat: roots of a fallen over tree, i think oak
Gills: yellowish, with
Spore print color: orange brown, see pic with a huge pile of it on top of one
Bruising: possibly some green at base, hue in cap. [
please note the spore pile in pic 4 and the way the gills do that splitting up thing, the technical term for which excapes me presently...
also, what do you do about maggots? dry em out and eat em like mescal worms??? throw em in the grinder and try not to remember they're there when you ingest? What you don't look for you don't see? or are you hunters tossing collections like this in hopes of finding them sooner on another outing. in general, what DOES one do about maggots?

Those are Gymnopilus and probably G. spectabilis. However, better photos of fresher specimens would help me feel better about the suggestion.
I feel bad about the mass grave yard of maggots, springtails and slugs that is my dehydrator.

thanks gravija, better photos and fresher specimens would make *me* feel better too! I'd take them, but the better preserved smaller two got dissected a bit and debugged and are drying. There was some bluing at the base of the smallest one.
I've been finding mass quantities of galerina, pholiota, armillaria and Hypholoma sublateritium with an amanita thrown in every so often, so its refreshing to find something else. The unicorn hunt for some of the other varieties listed for Ohio goes on! while rinsing the cobwebs and dirt off, i did save the spore-laden 'liqueur' which i guess i plan to put in a spray bottle and find some good logs to spritz.
