Anyone else done a DIY fix on their PS3 controller?
    #18986890 - 10/16/13 04:13 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

I've watched a couple of YouTube videos on it and it seems pretty simple, but I don't want to fuck up my controller because I don't have $50 to get a new one right now.

It eventually works up and after banging it around it will work for the most part, but still fucks up here and there after it gets going, which is totally unacceptable for Splinter Cell online play.  So I would rather just deal with what I have if I'm likely to break what I have.  I've done work on my own electronics before, but I had enough money to deal with it at that point.

Just wondering if anybody here has done such a thing and has any pointers?

Thanks, bud.  In four hours, I'll probably be trying to use my controller to play with my bud on Splinter Cell, but I'll be around.  Appreciated :awehigh:

What exactly is wrong with your controller?

Mines falling apart at this point lol. Sticky triggers and sticks, and the usb connection is super broken. Gets me killed in gta all the time.

Random buttons going off at any time.  After the controller warms up and I bang it against a table a few times usually it works.

Take it apart and see if anything looks out of the ordinary, left side should be symmetrical to right, sticky triggers is either cum buildup, or the pins are worn from mashing them, or are off. Most likely something with the pins, there should be two on both sides of the inside of the r2 and l1 buttons. On mine one of the pins on l2 was bent out of shape, so i just removed it. You only NEED one purrrr button, but if you can fix them so they all stay that'll be better. I don't know what exactly you mean by buttons fucking up, but all you can really do is make sure the silicon(i think? Theres a rubbery material underneath the d-pad and actual buttons) is lined up perfectly on the computer chip part, you'll be able to tell what part has to be pressed, to correspond with the buttons.

These are all fixes i did on a controller i had that broke after being thrown around like a cheerleader at a football game. (shittiest analogy joke attempt i've ever made)

As for the usb, the only thing i can suggest is if you look at the bottom of the controller, facing so you can read the sticker on bottom look just above the top right corner. See that tiny hole? No no that's the screw, you doofus, there's a reset button you'll need a needle to press.
