damn, thats a rough, shity way to go... hopefully he got to a few of those mushrooms first...at least go out happy and not hungry... the deer that steal my mushrooms are on a giant college campus and they are so used to people!! i walked up on a deer in the woods the other day, got 10 feet or so from him before i even saw him standing there.... i just froze and stood there, he looked at me for a few seconds and went right back to eating some berries on the ground! i just turned around and walked away and he still just stood there, enjoying his meal lol. i never see any dead on the road though...either they are used to the cars and know better or the school is fast with the clean up crew

Yea i was a little sad too. Thats crazy how they are tame at that campus. I see em places here where they are like that and one time in Boulder Colorado. Theres a whole couple blocks they inhabit in the city there.

I found what I believe to be the first A. muscaria I've seen around where I live, and it was munched by a deer. The cap was torn off and only the stem was left just sticking up out of the ground, and maybe a bite of the cap and some little chewed up bits were left on the ground. Under a pine tree, shaggy rings, warts on the bit of cap.

Ive found them like that too. Judging by all the deer snorts and noises I get im guessing your right its the damn deer lol. The ones here are on to me. They seen me enough to stay a distance but they eat in the mornings and evenings just get there before they do lmao i know thats damn near impossible! They live in the woods! I think they follow me sometimes and have taken a grudge lmao! They wait intil I leave then go see what I was so curious about. Ive had horses do the same thing!they see me bend down to look at something and act like theyre not bothered. Then when I stand back up they are within ten feet of me! Quiet when they wanna be! I carry a red cooler little one. And sometimes they think I have food. I take em for a walk so to say. i love the great outdoors!

Lol, the only way I get nice, clean, not-half-eaten amanita is to get out to my spot early... the other day, I went out at 7, right as the sun was coming up, got to my spot and within 5 mins I see a group of deer and one was eating something...so I walked over and saw one of the smaller deer eating my persicina!!!!! So I yelled and they all just looked at me like I have three heads but continue to just stand there.... I had to run up on them, waving my walking stick and screaming before they ran off.... can't imagine what the people on the road, 10 feet to the left of me, were thinking lol!!!

So many deer here in sw Ohio! I can see herds of over a hundred at the right times from my own house. Morel hunting in the spring is pretty fun because of them.

I always scare up a few Turkeys as well in the spring, i hunt public land because i don't really know any private land owners around here. BUT i find Blacks, Greys, Yellows and of course the half free's. Last year was a pretty good year over all. Prolly found around 15 lbs or so. Still have a few quart jars filled up with dry ones.
