Where in the world should I go?!
    #18985536 - 10/16/13 10:37 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Somehow I never fully realized until the other day, I can go anywhere in the world if I want. An ideal country to me would be tropical, near an archipelago, and have basic human freedoms (this is the part I'm unsure about)

So basically, I'll give a short list of places that sound ideal to me to visit, and maybe someday move there. My real question is, what places similar to this have "good" governments?

country ideas: Thailand, south america, (anywhere there) the Philippines, austrailia, new zealand maybe. I want pretty poor countries away from the influence of americas hideous culture.

I want to retain my freedoms, and possibly gain some new ones when I go.

Have you checked out what your current country has to offer? Say Colorado, Washington, Oregon?

Oregon does seem like the best of both worlds to me. The two worlds being rainy ass Washington with no summer, and California being too hot.

But I have this wanderlust now. When I talk about living in these other countries thats mostly dreaming for now. Its more likely I'll end up in canada or just laying low in the US

I would suggest you move to France if you ever get the chance, to myself France has always appeared to be the ideal place if you would like to see beauty unheard of. I feel like Paris in particular contains all the beauty in the one, as if it can store every molecule which transcends to beauty and can make you feel in each place you travel an immense world of wonder and splendor. I remember my friend just departed for France last July and he's told me all about his time there, saying, and saying it without seeming to hold back any of the information about his time spent there, that everywhere he looked at in Paris seemed to open him up to an entirely new world which was different than any other place he'd traveled at that point in life(though 3 years later he did say that Australia held about the same amount of wonder).

I've never lived in Paris myself, but from what I've heard from people that have been there its the place to be. I am thinking that in a few years I shall end up moving there with my wife in order to delight in the scenery presented there, because, naturally, when a place appears to reveal an immense amount of beauty, a beauty which cannot be compared to anything else for it is a singularity which seems to only come from that habitat, makes the temptation to move there increase..

The government in France is also ALOT more hospitable than what you see in the United States, in the Us you will see injustice from even the most influential politicians but in France its different, you feel that you are taken care of by people whom are obliged to perform "par excellent", because you know that you can stay there while retaining your safety you won't even wish to go anywhere else for its a prosperous place to be...

My uncle said that someone invited him to France a week ago but he was planning on moving to Russia in a month so he had to unfortunately deny their offer. Later he realized that he wasn't the person that was supposed to have received the invite for it was suppose to be sent to his brother whom, coincidentally had already been living in France for 8 years and knew everyone in France. He actually is one of the most influential figures in France for he became the co owner of a very prestige restaurant there, though that restaurant was closed last year and no longer does anymore business.

^ Paris is a great place to live in, but you have to have some money if you really want to enjoy the city, life here can be pretty expensive. It's a small country (compared to the US) but there's a LOT of diversity, OP I can recommend some places if you want.

Interesting, I did go to france as a young lad. I remember it being pretty enchanting. Not as beautiful as Ireland to me back then though.

That "knew everyone in France" bit made me chuckle. European countries are crazy small though

You mentioned some great countries in your list of places that would be ideal for you to visit, OP. I would probably suggest New Zealand or Australia as a starting point, as you won't have the language barrier you would have travelling countries where English isn't the first language.

There are so many beautiful countries I'd love to visit, Russia being one that immediately comes to mind, but it just wouldn't be very practical knowing absolutely no Russian. I mean, I'm sure I could manage, and there are bound to be people that speak English that are patient and willing to help me, but it just seems more sensible to me to at least learn the basics before venturing off into a country I've never been to. Plus, I'm sure the residents will appreciate the effort you made in learning their native tongue.

South America is a continent and you can have all sort of experiences, there - from very poor Bolivia to very European Buenos Aires with just about everything in between.

If you are looking to expand your horizons, try Japan. The culture shock will blow your mind way further than any trip you can imagine.

Cambodia - cheap drugs (weed, shrooms, heroin mainly), lots of illegal guns to play with, young girls, good food, magnificent temples. Some parts are like the wild west so if you want a bit of danger, this is the place for it. Although the cities are becoming a bit touristy lately so this is changing.

While youre in the region you can hop across into Laos, and go tubing down the river at Vang Vieng, get pulled in by locals to drink beer in their shoddy bamboo huts, have some smoko, end your day watching the sunset from a hammock after eating some special herb bread and a shroomy strawberry shake. Like Cambodia, the beer and food is dirt cheap.

I can name some of the obvious ones: Guatemala, India, Nepal, Morocco, Spain

For just drug-tourism for max 1-2 years the Cambodia and perhaps Laos are the best in SE-Asia , but avoid other countries nearby especially Thailand. These times are long gone when Thailand was a great place holding psychedelic parties.

Australia and new Zeland are not poor and extremely westernized.
You should look into african countries and some asian ones since you want trpoical....again  new zeland is not tropical. If you don't like the heat in csli the Oz may not be your best option.

Australia is also very expensive. And in the cities most people have their head so far u their asses that you can't expect much friendliness. South East Asia on the other hand is very hospitable and you can fall in with locals easily, often being invited to do shit with them, or eat or even stay with them for a genuine travel experience.

The communist state of Kerala in South India is also fairly chilled out, and very green. Also there's hash available if you get to know the local boys.

Yeah Thailand is great. The government not so much. I mean it's fairly well run but they don't fuck around about drugs and stuff.

I think S America is going the direction you want. Maybe check out Colombia or Peru. Brazil sounds great too, but they have a fairly booming economy, so the dollar doesn't go very far there. Much of Latin America is talking about saying fuck it to US drug policies that have caused so many problems for them.

And dude- Cali is not too hot. It depends where in Cali you live. There are probably more different climate zones in Cali than in any other state. Shit there are even places that are cold and rainy all the time. People really have no idea about Cali. They go to one city and think the whole state is like that.
