The US government is back to work!

It's about time this joke ended.
What has the government gained from all this? Nothing
Has the government learned anything? Probably not
Overall: Waste of time, money, resource, respect, credibility, etc.
Yay!

Yay!
If polls shift half a point its worth it to them.
Either way, Americans know this was all a scheme by Republicans, so if anything its gonna help the Democrats retain the Senate and maybe pick up seats in the House.
Plus, we get to go through this bullshit again in 3 more months..

It's about fairness. The President and Congress want to exempt themselves from feeling the impact of Obamacare and the President handed out (illegally) special breaks to unions and big corporations. What about the American people?
We got fucked. Go try to sign up for Obamacare and you have to enter a rabbit warren that is designed with one goal in mind - keeping you from finding out how expensive health insurance is now going to be if you are a young American.
EPIC FAIL

There was one positive accomplishment; Obama's poll ratings are now below those of George W. Bush at the same time in his tenure, so fuck you Obama. This middle finger is for you, baby!

The tea-party idiots strapped a bomb to their chest and said "We'll blow up the country if we don't get our way" Thankfully the GOP leadership is stupid enough to follow them, but not so insane that they went through with it. Basically they threw a temper tantrum/ bluff, and all we got out of it was a dip in the stock market, a bunch of lost revenue in tourist towns near federal parks, and federal employees out of work. The GOP now has single digit poll ratings. All they're doing is fucking us, and themselves.

Threatening to let the US default on it's loans and ruin the economy just to force some dumb policy they've failed to enact 46 times already is hardly what I'd call 'politics'. Most people where I'm from call it 'Insanity'.

As long as we keep Obama from enacting his agenda it is a victory for the American people, Lynnch. Someone has to stop the welfare state's expansion and that is the job of the Tea Party and we are winning and will continue to win. Our prospects for 2014 look even better than they did in 2010.

Just curious as to why they're closing due to health care costs . My employer just made us all sign a paper saying they don't offer health benefits .
Closing the doors seems a little drastic .

once again the US government takes in way more every month than what we owe. So now we just added a trillion dollars in debt. Obama voted against raising the debt ceiling when he was a senator.

Except that we take in more than 10 times the amount of revenue each month as would be required to service our debt. Not raising the debt ceiling is where we are headed. You can't spend money you don't have forever and ever and call it the greater good of America or anything else. We are robbing our grandchildren of their freedom so we can lavishly spend on these ridiculous entitlement programs today. It is unsustainable and everyone knows it.
Only the Republicans are willing to face this fact. The Democrats prefer to kick the can down the road. Well, we are awfully close to that end of the road and it has to stop.
I hope there is enough support in the House to destroy this unamerican, anti-freedom bill.
Government can't spend money it doesn't have if it is shutdown and if the debt ceiling isn't raised, then deficit spending will cease.
It doesn't get any simpler than that.

You do realize that the Republicans know that if the government doesn't run near trillion plus deficits on a yearly basis, the economy will enter a deeper deflationary recession/depression?
No politician can mention this economic reality, how can increasing more debt make economic sense? It does in the short term, (3-4 years), but not in the long term (5-10 years), our political system is just trying to survive another year, nothing more.

Whoa whoa whoa, don't all try to insult my intelligence at once.
So, Quit trying to mislead people into thinking that not raising the debt was some responsible fiscal action. It was a silly threat and nothing more. Either that, or an insane irresponsible threat.
There is a good chance Texas will turn blue in the next decade. Bye bye GOP.

Mad_Larkin said: What was the logic (if any) behind this shutdown thing anyway?
The tea-party idiots strapped a bomb to their chest and said "We'll blow up the country if we don't get our way" Thankfully the GOP leadership is stupid enough to follow them, but not so insane that they went through with it. Basically they threw a temper tantrum/ bluff, and all we got out of it was a dip in the stock market, a bunch of lost revenue in tourist towns near federal parks, and federal employees out of work. The GOP now has single digit poll ratings. All they're doing is fucking us, and themselves.
What a crock of shit. Your understanding of Tea Party politics gets a single digit rating.
Actually thats pretty accurate.
The loudest voices in this thing were all tea party republicans, boehner was only involved because he's speaker.
and we all knew this was a bluff from the start, they had nothing to bargain with. And, because (as they expected) the Republicans were found to be my pollsters to be blamed for a possible default, they caved.
And yes, the GOP only hurt themselves in this. Obama's poll numbers are on him, these pointless stunts by the Republicans only make Democrats look like the better option come next year in the House.

I suspect that in the long run this will all make no difference.
Those that fought were elected by their constituents to do just what they did. Those same people will likely vote for the same candidate.
There will be no, or very minor, consequences.

The true spirit of this Republican Party on display:
A tea party conservative congressman lectures and berates a park service employee for the closure of the veterans memorial.
Typical. Blame someone else for what you are personally responsible for and hating everything the government does except for the things you like, then complaining that the government has let you down. The common theme? Many of these tea party type are completely lacking empathy of any sort. They don't care about anything that doesn't personally affect them.

can't trust you regular American working people though, no, you're all no good jive turkeys! you gotta change your ways and recover prosperity by having less gaining more scruples about how you people act! "

I agree with all of this except for the fact that you pin it on one political party, there hasn't been any empathetic and empowered political parties in the history of man as far as I've heard.
Democrat and Republican politicians alike would strangle an old woman for her life insurance if they thought they could get away with it.

How many people do they employ in these "small franchises"?

No shit. 50 employees is not a small franchise. And, I doubt it makes business sense to hire from the bottom of the labor market and good luck retaining employees.
Sounds like a lot more part time jobs.
