Broken Phone and Getting Insurance After the Fact
    #18985450 - 10/16/13 10:08 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Well, I got a S3 about 3 months ago for my first smart phone. I've never broken a phone in my life but somehow in a drunken escapade last night I managed to break, get this, my back camera lenses (the main one). It was in my pocket screen facing my leg like I always do but I had it top down so the camera was near the bottom of my pocket, I guess I slammed it on something and broke it.

Man this shit is so small I'm so pissed off my luck was shitty enough for this to happen. I never got insurance because I don't break my phones and I figured FUCK IT, well fuck me. I tried moving the shattered glass out of the way but it's just really blurry now because I guess the camera focuses through the glass, like contacts or glasses. I got this fucking smart phone for the god damn camera so I can videotape cool shit when it goes down around me but 3 months in and I shattered the fucking thing cause I got drunk but not even really cause of that just because my luck shit out last night :mad2:

Now I thought up a diabolical plan, what if I get insurance on my phone pay it for a month or two and then report the damage? Has anyone done this before? I have AT&T. Let me know what you think, thanks

go

You might want to read this
http://www.att.net/smartcontrols-MobileInsurance
Insurance sounds like a bad investment after reading that.

You have 30 days after you upgrade or activate a device to sign up for insurance
and
You will probably have a $199 Non-Refundable Deductible

Probably better just to find a used one., since AT&T will just replace it with a refurbished one anyways.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Fuck. I knew there had to be a catch, seemed too easy.

Would selling this one be an option? Man, I'll probably just give up and have a no camera phone for 1.5 years. Good thing I don't take many pictures :mad2:

You could look into repair.  I see those little kiosks and stores in the mall offering repair pretty often.  No idea how they work.

S3's on ebay look like they go around $300...

Yeah I'll look in to that. A repair would be optimal, the camera lens itself is fine it just has a hole in the glass that rests above it.

I am in a similar situation. My S3 from Verizon just stopped turning on about a week ago. Verizon told me that normally it would be considered defective, but since there was a TINY crack in the bottom right corner, (that happened months ago and didn't affect the phone working at all) they wouldn't be able to replace it without insurance. They said my deductible would only be $100 though, and apparently insurance from Verizon can be purchased at any time.

I might try to save some money and try a repair shop nearby first later today.

Call Samsung and see what they say.  They made the phone, inquire about what is (and isn't) covered under warranty.

OP should do the same for a repair.  Doesn't hurt to ask

Otter box cases guys.

Ive had my smart pone for years and Im a huge drunk and clumsy as all fuck.

The case has some cracks in it but I've dropped this phone on cement ceramic  all sorts of shit.

Hell they even got waterproof ones now. Cost is a bit up there but shit is better then paying 200-400 for a new smart phone.

That's the worst fucking part man. I had an Otter Box, the commuter case. It literally hit the only weak point of the case besides the screen, the fucking camera lens. I am not lying when I tell you this is shit luck.
