Is this bluing or am I just nuts?
    #18985156 - 10/16/13 08:07 AM (10 years, 3 months ago)

This guy was by himself.  I didn't see others around that looked similar.  What caught my attention was some other shrooms nearby that reminded me of cyanescens or something with a wavy cap, but the ones I saw are chocolate brown. So anyway I happened to grab this one for the helluva it and try to identify it later.

Location:
Central Japan
Elevation is about 80 meters (262ft)

Habitat:
Deciduous forest with a floor covered by leaves.
Found right to a stream, sort of in the stream.
Growing from mud/silt/sand/organic matter

Weather:
We just had a typhoon that dumped 96mm (3.78") of rain.
previous to that it was pretty much dry for this month

Gills:
greyish.  When I first saw it I noticed a slight purple around the edge of the cap.
The pic with the closeup of the gills...my camera of the light really made it look more purple than I can see with my eyes.

Stem:
thin and whitish.  Shiny on the surface.

Cap:
convex

Spore print color:
Brown?

Bruising:
Seems too bruise a darker color

Thanks again guys!

So you cut the mushroom and then glued it back together and that's when it started "bruising"?
But I don't think that's what happened.  It looks like it was purplish colored and then it turned brown, right?

It's not bruising but the mushrooms original colour. It looks like a purple Cortinarius like Baltimark suggested

It was brownish/grey from the start.  Just after I came home it seemed to get darker.  That was before I cut it.  I think I'm too anxious to find something active lol
Thanks guys.  Everyone is so quick to respond on this forum.

And a nice clue is brown remnants on the cap margin and forming a ring on the stem.
