    #18984816 - 10/16/13 04:37 AM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hi forum,

Hope you all well.
Newbie question here: Found these this morning whilst out walking the dog, I,m pretty sure there liberty caps, but thought I,d post pics see what you guys think...
I bow to your better judgement on this, & sorry to show my ignorance, I have checked previous threads & pics & as previously stated they do look like liberty caps...
Thanks in advance, all replys welcome please......
Thanks.
Tony..

They are 100% not liberty caps, don't eat them and throw them away.

None are libs, sorry chap!

They have a distinctive conical to bell-shaped cap, with a nipple-like protrusion on the top. There are a lot of looklikes man so make sure you have a good look through some pics of Semilanceata (wet and dry)

Good luck

Yep. Some differences are Libs have cream gills turning purple-brown, a gelatinous pellicle that can be partially or wholly peeled away, fibrous stems that often have a slight ring zone, and usually a little nipple on an umbo. They are rarely gregarious and never grow in large cespitose clusters. Unlike most Mycena they do not grow on wood. (If these were on the ground it is likely these fruited from buried wood.) The cap margin of libs is frequently incurved, whereas Mycena are characterised by their bonnet shape (or somewhat more conical). I think the only similarity is the size, but don't be disheartened and good luck.
