Ey people!
I am very new in mushroom cultivation, and I would like to share my last experience to check out what am I doing wrong.
I placed the inoculated jars below the window of my room. they had no direct light and the temperature was around 18/19º Celsius. A little bit in the limit, but actually colonization started to happen.
Anyway, two weeks later with just very little area colonized, I decided to move the jars on top of the water heating, where temperature oscilates between 22 and 24º Celsius.
The results weeks later, colonization stopped and, moreover, an awfull smell invades the jars (which I decided to open because obviously it was going nowhere). Acid smell, like fermentation, like the smell of a brewery...
Any ideas?
Have a nice time!

Contamination.
Somewhere in your sterile procedures unwanted stuff got in.
probably bacteria.
www.mushroomvideos.com
watch the pf tek videos and do your inoculations like that.
Aside from that, bacterial contaminations can also happen if sterilisation is not complete. Or the spore syringe/print you used was contaminated.

Direct heat is no good. I'd think it contaminated because of the heat, and if it had been left there longer they would just dry out. I put mine on a bookshelf made of tree, because tree conducts heat worse than any metal. A bad heat conductor is also a bad cold-conductor, and the shelfs surface would have the same temperature as your room.
I keep them away from cold walls and at about 6-7 feet height.
