Affordable countries to live?

anyone have any idea on places that are really cheap to live but still nice? not slum type areas
found economist take a cheapest places in the world... http://list25.com/25-of-the-worlds-cheapest-places-to-live/2/
although its all big cities, i'm sure there are cheaper places that are not so populated where i won't get murdered...
just a pipe dream i guess, but it would be nice to travel the world while i'm still young. looks like plane tickets are crazy expensive, even if i book a year in advance to go to india/pakistan its >$1200 one way.
although bogota (1way) isn't much more expensive than my christmas ticket is looking to be (2way)
please give me insight...

I worked with a guy who talked up Columbia/South America a lot. He was from there and would fly down like once a year and just go hard for a month. Come back, recovery. The language would be fucked though, I couldn't go without someone who spoke it.

Central/South America, the cost of living is very low in most parts and it's beautiful down there.
You just have to research what individual city you want to live in because while most are chill little places, some are pretty slummy and infested with criminals.

I think if you can at least get a foothold in some parts of Germany, it is very affordable. Also, with a German job you will get 22 paid vacay days a year, paid holidays, unlimited sick days and full bennies.

Portugal is pretty awesome! I loved Lisbon
I'm kind of a seafood snob, so Lisbon felt like home based off the fact I could buy a fucking Scallop.

Slovakia was dirt cheap and had all of the modern western conveniences.
Out of that list Ive been to; Manila, Lima, Mexico City and Cairo.
Lima is the only one Id like to live in.

Portuguese isn't too hard to learn either and then you have a language you can speak in Brazil as well!

Too much poverty, crime, panhandlers and street hawkers in Manila, Mexico City and Cairo.
Lima had that too but it also had its nice areas, and just seemed more overall mellow. Sure, it was gritty in parts but those parts were cool too, cheap little auto shops and restaurants.

Cambodia. You can get a apt in the center of town with 24 hour electricity for less than $25 a month. You can eat very hearty on $2 a day and transportation is next to free. But you have to be able to adjust to living in SE asia. That in itself is a whole different story.

I hear North Korea is great this time of year and you are guaranteed housing and a job. A hundred American dollars would allow you to buy a 500-acre resort in North Korea. Just sayin'...
