Central Texas Mushrooms
    #18982555 - 10/15/13 06:29 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

So I live right outside of Austin, TX but work in Austin. Well, it has been raining like crazy here lately. Which is good cause we really needed it, although it doesn't look to stop anytime soon. So the weather is perfect for Mushroom hunting. The ground is nice and saturated. It's dark outside due to being overcast, just nice and shroomey if you know what I mean. I found a bunch today but don't know what kind any of them are. I saw another group of white ones that were kind of bell shaped when I was driving home and wanted to stop and take a picture of them, but my girlfriend was upset cause I already did that...So on to the mushrooms I found today!

I dropped my kids off at daycare this morning and found these guys. They must have a pretty established spore network under this yard cause just about every time it rains these little gray guys pop up in her front yard.
1.

I took a smoke break while at work and walked around trying to find some more. Well, not to toot my horn but I ended up finding 5 different kind around my office building!!! I found this alone in some well kept bermuda grass. Although, when I was leaving I did see another little guy popping up next to it.
2.

Saw this weird thing right next to a plant. I think it's fungus but not 100% about that.
3.

Sorry to you mushrooms lovers out there but I killed this one. There a bunch more around it so I think it's ok. I thought it was a rock but it looked weird so I kicked it like a dumbass and ended up finding out it was a shroom. I genuinely felt bad.
4.

Found this one in the middle of a couple of trees. It was in dirt alone, no other brothers or sisters around it.
5.

Spotted this one coming out from under a rock. At this point I was so stoked to find so many different kinds in one smoke break.
6.

As I was driving I spotted these guys growing in a compost pile surrounding a tree. I got out of my car to take a picture of this one. Really pissed my girlfriend off.
7.

I got home and decided to look around my backyard to see if I could find any. I know there are this next species in a particular spot whenever it rains hard. Another one where I think the spore network under ground is really established. Not an expert but it looks pretty similar to the one I posted above.
8.

Lastly, I found this little gem next to my shed about 10-15 feet away from the other one in my backyard. It was all alone. Poor lil' fellow.
9.

I saw some pinning in my garden bed in the front but there was no shrooms yet. I'll take a picture of them first thing in the morning. So all in all a lucky day for mushroom spotting. Any of you mycology experts out there think you can identify them from these pictures?

Here's a few suggestions

1. Coprinoid, looks like Parasola
2. Perhaps Conocybe apala...
3. Geastrum/Astraeus
4. Scleroderma citrinum

The fragile white loking mushroom looks like a lepitota to me

The orangeish ones appear to be Amarilla species ( I'm not sure)

The one beneath the rocks could be a polypore

The last picture might be a psythrella..

Yeah for alot of those, we don't have much to go on for an accurate ID.

Also I lol'd at the part where you stop the car with your girlfriend in it to take mushroom photos :congrats:

1. Parasola plicatis
2. Leucocoprinus birnbaumii
3. ?
4. Scleroderma sp.
5. ?
6. Boletus sp.
7. Tubaria sp.
9. ?
10. Marasmius sp.

These are just guesses, it would be easier if you include all the information.  Most importantly photos of the gills and spore prints.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!
:ohboycomputer:
Internetting now...

I'll bring a ziplock bag to work tomorrow and try to pick them. Hopefully nobody sees me and thinks I'm trying to get high. What other information would be helpful without the spore prints and gill pics?

I agree with Lhun, except that

3 is also Scleroderma, that is what they look like when they get old

5 is Lepiota or Leucoagaricus

7 is a Pholiota

10 could be Conocybe or Entoloma, check the spore print color or gill color in mature specimens

Gills of that color would point towards a Conocybe species.  Good call Alan.  The dark stipe had me thinking Marasmius.

I went out and found the ones I took pictures of yesterday and got some gill shots today. Also went walking and found a BUNCH of mushrooms. I'll save those for some other threads. Really want to find out what these ones with pictures are. I looked up the ones named and some were dead on, others didn't quite look like the ones I saw. Posting these gill shots just to be sure. The bottom of number 6 sure is pretty. Really appreciate the help with these guys!!!

1. Parasola plicatilis
2.
3. Scleroderma sp. (Now I'm seeing these guys everywhere!)
4. Scleroderma sp.
5. Sorry this was one was past the point of no return when I went back today.
6. Boletus Rubellus
7.
8. This one will come back. It always does.
9. Conocybe species I suppose
