ID Req: Some kind of bracket/shelf fungi
    #18983138 - 10/15/13 08:10 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

Found in Seattle, Wa growing off an exposed root of a fir tree. The underside has teeth gills, that look green/whitish, but that might be mold.

Totally looks like Hydnellum spongiosipes but this part:

Ecology: Mycorrhizal with oaks (especially white oak) and other hardwoods; growing alone or gregariously; summer and fall; widely distributed east of the Rocky Mountains. www.mushroomexpert.com/hydnellum_spongiosipes.html

I'm west of the Rocky Mts., and I was almost 100% sure it was on a fir, look at all of the needles... But it looks a lot like it. Also looks like h. concrescens. Anyhow, pretty cool.

The Hydnellum that grows around here seems to prefer conifers also.
