First time cultivating and I have some questions.
ive read and read and read for weeks and weeks now and I think im ready to finally make the jump to get some fungus-among-us.
Question 1: how big of a fruiting chamber would be good for 5 cakes. Ive shopped around at the local Wal Mart but cant decide on the size. they all go by quarts.....
Question 2: spore supplier. Trying to find someone as close to Oregon as i can.
Thanks in advance

Do not do Cakes!... Use WBS or Rye Grains and then make a mini-mono. Mini-Mono is a catering dish from a supermarket with the clear plastic lid on it, Just make sure to line with plastic trash bag. Use 1qt Jar of spawn, and a quarter to half brick of coir, 1/4th to 1/2 qt of verm, and you will get more of a flush and no need for a Fruiting Chamber. Soo easy. And you'll get a flush sooner then doing BRF cakes, because you'll be able to shake the jars.

since you are willing to do research, Look up Mini-mono's, Damiens5050 Tek, Frank Hooligan's Tek's. don't waste your money on half pint Jars. Use the plastic Storage container as a sterile air box, better yet, buy tyvek sleeves and make a glove box. after the first flush, of BRF tek, you'll want to do a bigger Better and more productive grow.
Yea, Edit your post to get Rid of a Hawk Having eyes, Even though Hawks with Eyes are fucking betting than blind hawks.

Some good advice. I used a 16qt plastic tote to make my mini-monos.
here are some good links to read if you haven't all ready.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/17897163#17897163
the one's you'll want to read are the wbs prep, bulk substrate (coir) prep, proper pasteurization, g2g, and dialing in your monotub.

OP does not need to do grains off the bat, even if he wants to do bulk OP I suggest you do cakes, just do lots of them, 16-20 should be good for a 66 quart mono, 10 would be plenty for a mini mono. This way you get to have a feel as to whether you like this or not before dropping cash on a PC.

It's not like a pressure cooker is expensive. Walmart sells 16qt presto's for something like $65. Pressure cookers have so many other uses too, like cooking meat. With a pressure cooker you can get the meat to "fall off the bone" fairly easily.

The PF tek can be done by steam sterilization.
And the PF tek really is a good way to show new cultivators how mushrooms work. It's a nice beginning tek and can be improved upon later.

Its not like I'm trying to detract from getting a PC or trying grains. I love rye and I haven't done a cake in over a year. I just never assume that people have the same budget as I do, or will love growing as much as I love it. OP can do a few cakes for cheap, and spawn to a mono just as easy without buying stuff he may not want later.
Shit I ended up loving mycology so much that I never bought a big PC, here's what I use now

Much as I love my 75x I would never encourage anyone to drop cash on that if they were not 100% sure that they would actually use it

I think cakes are a great starting point for someone starting out. I think I would have been a lot more discouraged if I would have tried to start off with grains. Cakes are much more forgiving for a first timer and their mistakes. And plus it is a great learning experience. I like the cake --> tray --> tub progression personally.
