Can someone please help identify what this could be? I thought it might be mycelium, but it doesn't look like any of the pictures of seen on the web. It doesn't smell off, and there is nothing else wrong in their environment from what i can tell.Anyone?

Wait for Kizzle or another more experienced grower to chime in before you eat those dudes.
My guess is that you've got mycelial growth on the cap to due low FAE. I've just never seen it look like that before - which strain are you growing?

Looks like some kind species of Coprinus. I don't know if they all do this but some start decomposing quickly after you pick them.

I agree with Kizzle. Here the question is: what are you trying to grow in the first place ?
They told you it was an unnamed strain. Strain of what specie ?

C. comatus is the only thing remotely similar I've seen from over in H&ID...But it looks basically nothing like it besides just being fuzzy. Prints from them are jet black, and the print he's got there certainly doesn't match.
The only Species I know of that has a green print, is Chlorophyllum Molybdites. Now let's say there's poor FAE involved. Would it be possible for the scales on the cap to be "re-colonized" by the myc to give this fuzzy effect?
This one's got me beat.

The spore print is a dark chocolate brown, it just looks weird against the aluminum foil with the camera flash.
And to MAIA, all they said is cubensis. Very vague

In short, they are not cubensis.
I'm with Jimmyhunter1000 as well. Probably a Coprinus specie.

unfortunately i did not see this before but there is another member on this forum that ordered the same kit from magicmushroomkit.ca and had this exact same mushroom pop up in the box.
In light of the failure, i think I might order some Penis Envy from Sporeworks and start from scratch. Just not sure how one could go about it without a pressure cooker involved. Any thoughts or suggestions?

How did you prepare your substrate?

it was the microwave min kit. The straw substrate and the casing soil is put through the microwave on high for 3-5 mins.

Those mushrooms are usually a result of improperly made substrate and not just the presence of spores.
Also they usually pop up relatively early. It's still possible whichever species you were trying to grow will still show up later.

Pf tek can be done without a pressure cooker. I've had success with a pre-made "pf tek" grow bag. It was very simple get the bag in the mail, inoculate it with spores and let it sit. I broke mine in half when it was done and had two pf cakes. Although if you plan on getting serious with this hobby at some point you will have to buy a pressure cooker. Our first one was 7 bucks at a flea market, small but still works. Once you get a pressure cooker you will never look back and your options will multiply.

Where do you get your grow bags from? themadseason.com has presterilized WBS or a Mad Bag (whatever is in that). Would either of those be decent for growing Penis Envy on with fair results?

Just to clarify I'm not referring to pasteurization. They grow when there is ammonia and/or similar compounds in the substrate and die off once they use it up.
I'm not exactly surprised that a vendor who recommends microwave pasteurization also didn't know how to make compost.
