There are two industry standard DAWs, Logic and Pro Tools.

Logic only runs on a mac. It does all the same stuff as all the other DAWs posted and more without having to hassle with installing third party VSTs (though the option is still available.)

Pro Tools runs on PC or mac. It requires lots of third party software to become as useful as Logic, it's less user-friendly, but it allows for more customization. Plus there's way more third party software for PCs than there are for macs.

An RTAS is an RTAS... Doesn't matter if its mac or PC

Macs have better audio drivers ime, but its cheaper to make a PC that's up to the task of music production. Macs win a bit on system stability - but if you keep a fairly disconnected, uncluttered PC they should be fairly similar in that regard.

Other than that - Logic is Mac only and FL studio PC only for the most part (though you could run through wine)... it mostly comes down to personal preference, and availability of resources.

Yeah I'm not 100% sure about the status of that, last I checked it was in beta but maybe full release now?

get a voice recorder, go hike out in nature and humm your soul away.  get a pc program that translates audio into notes (play the voice recorder in front of a microphone).  learn how to use Ableton and edit that sheeit all night.  fuck around with different synthesizers and effects.

Plenty of big names using Ableton and FL Studio for EDM that is

If you record then the two you mention are probably the best for that

I use FL Studio and sometimes Logic Pro. M-Audio FW410 as an audio interface, Akai MPD32 for MIDI-ctrlling, and NI Massive/FM/FM8, Sylenth1&2, and a few other VSTi's.. Waves Diamond Bundle plugins for delay, reverb and such, NI Battery/Reaktor and IL Edison for sample manipulation.

Recording directly to FL Studio is pretty neat, no different to any other DAW out there. FL Studio's piano roll is superior compared to say, Logic's piano roll. A lot easier and faster to use IMO.

I used to edit my samples with Sound Forge, but after FL Studio 9 I've used only Edison(IL plugin, native to FL Studio). and NI Battery/Reaktor

Idk I'm a FL Studio fan for life

I mean what other DAW manufacturer gives you lifetime free updates with one purchase

I'm planning on learning Cubase next, mainly just because I want to&lots of friends who make music use it.. Ableton Live I use when I play live sets/DJ sets, for that it's friggin awesome :yesnod:

I'm an FL junkie, but REAPER is my go to for editing video-audio, and Ableton for setting up mixes :awesome:

Pro-tools is fucking amazing for recording music, but not so much for making MIDI tracks.
