A little experiment I'm conducting, would like your hypothesis on results :)

So I did my first gtg transfer on 7 jars. They seemed to colonize nicely, but since ive been having much trouble with contamination lately, i decided to not risk the supplies this go around and just spawn it with the half brick of coir i had left and the shake from my vermiculite bag.
So what i did was take a shoebox size tote and pour all the grains in there. They made a nice little cake about 3 days later. After 3 days I got the spontaneous urge to throw in the half brick of coir and vermiculite i had left over. I added in about 2.5 quarts of water and shook everything up. I DID NOT DO JACK SHIT IN REGARDS TO PASTEURIZATION AND STERILE PROCEDURE.
So the situation is pretty much 8 quarts of spawn, half a brick of coir and some verm, and water. its on day 2 and it seems its at about 60% colonization.
How do you think it will turn out?

Also, does spawn ratio have any effect on contamination's?

If you've been having contamination problems lately and didn't want to risk the supplies you had left then why would you not pasteurize, and be lax on you're sterile technique?? Coir is pretty contam resistant so you might get away with it but why even try if you didn't want to waste materials?
And yes higher spawn to sub ratios will colonize faster therefore making the window for contams to set in smaller.

I say it will fruit poorly if at all.
You totally took a few steps back if you're trying to control an ongoing contamination issue. Try to be a bit more professional if you're shooting for progress.
Although I do understand how amusing a silly experiment can be.

why would it not fruit if it reaches 100% colonization?

Am I understanding correctly that you cased (layered) the colonized grain with an unpasteurized bulk substrate that is also probably not adjusted to an ideal field capacity?
Show some pictures if you can.

not quite. so i just dumped 8 jars of grain spawn into the tote for 3 days. Let it do its thing. Then i added a brick of coir and the rest of my verm to the tote along with some water. then mixed everything up. Its pretty much like a mini monotub without any pasteurization.

That mycelium must be getting tired recolonizing so much...
You will most likely encounter last minute contamination and I'd say waterloging or the opposite, too dry of a substrate due to failure to bring to field capacity.
This grow is thrown together very amateur like and ignores the procedures us cultivators/tutors rant about.
This thing will most likely fruit poorly.

But you don't know because you didn't follow any procedure. You can't be certain at all unless you take the precautions.
Let's see some photos.

I know I've read people claim never to have pasteurized their coir and still get good results. Coir seems pretty damn resistant!

What are you trying to prove with this experiment? I think it goes without saying that the coir is going to contaminate, but you might be lucky and it may not present itself for awhile. why didnt you bother pasteurizing? It seems like a waste of spawn. How big of a shoebox or tub are you using? How do you plan to fruit it? What strain is this? Keep posting pictures. Best of luck.

Im not really trying to prove anything, just testing to see if it will work or not. I didnt pasteurize because i didn't trust my gtg transfer with anything larger scaled. its approximately 30qts, and if it colonizes i plan on using it as a flagship for my mini greenhouse. supposedly B+.
