ID please - Grass/Orchard find
    #18971969 - 10/13/13 12:07 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Found these guys growing in my pasture this morning. I would assume they're not active, but I'd be interested to know what species I have here.

Habitat:
Former pasture/orchard, under an apple tree, next to a pond. Western WA.

Gills:
Creamy white turning light brown in older specimens, adnate.

Stem:
Around 4 inches by 1/4 of an inch, white, fibrillous, hollow.

Cap:
About 2 inches, chocolate to reddish brown, lighter in older specimens, umbonate, somewhat waxy texture.

Spore print color:
Printing

Bruising:
No bruising

Maybe Rugosomyces species for the one on the left and maybe an Inocybe species for the one on the right.

Thanks. I was under the impression that they are both the same species though (all of them growing in a cluster, the one on the right being an old specimen). The spore print color is the same in both.

In pic 2, you definiately have 2 different species due to the cap texture.  Probably Entoloma on the left and Inocybe on the right.    Inocybe will give a tan print.

Thanks, appreciate it. Now that the spore prints have been printing for a little longer, it's actually pretty obvious that the colors are not quite the same - pinkish for the one on the left, light brown for the one on the right.

I guess the moral is not to read your prints too quickly
