My GT Pins are chubby.
    #18977945 - 10/14/13 06:49 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

They remind me of Russian nesting dolls.

This is my second attempt at a bulk substrate with the first being ruined by a trich break out on treated choir (lesson learned.)

Pan 1 (pins) is just spawn with verm, and Pan 2 is Choir/Verm with bone meal and calcium carbonate (its probably ~1 week behind). Pan 1 I let consolidate for a good while but Pan 2 I let lightly fluff out before putting it in the chamber. Pan 1 had been completely wrapped up in saran wrap while it colonized so I wanted to see if colonization in controlled air would make a difference.

Spawn is from the same syringe on the same batch of WBS. *Very* slow growers.

you can also say it takes space for it to do so,
for they are said to be the same thing.

ive had holes eaten in trays fairly quick..
maybe by the third flush or so depending on the thickness
idk, I didn't take note of it. just decided not to use it anymore because of this.

No worries on the trays, this was my test batch before I go big-tub. I put them at coin-flip odds of success so I was more concerned with them being disposable than anything else. Turns out they both came out pretty great though

With that said, I actually really like having things compartmentalized like this. It lets me try out different approaches without risking too much. Might ditch the big tub plans for some nice plastic trays for the time being.

I use shoebox sized totes and then put the bricks onto a foil square in a SGFC. The link is in my signature. You could even keep them in the tub to fruit them in the SGFC. The nice thing about them is they'll last a long time, they stack, and I can do the colonization phase by just putting the lid on.

Neat, organized, and compact -- Love it. Spot on to what I was considering. Thanks for the tip, I'll loop you in when the next grow gets underway.

Yeah I have seen people post pics on here of aluminum trays that look like someone poured strong acid in them. I'm sure the science behind it. Maybe someone can enlighten us

So according to the title bar, I posted those chubby little fuckers ~22 hours ago.

This is them now:

They look good, though not as meaty as I had hoped. The blue patch has me a little concerned, though it appears to only be mycelial blueing.

The weirdest part was how long it took for them to fully colonize and yet here they are rocketing up. Every thing looks good/smells good and its certainly well watered so I'm hoping I'm not seeing a bacteria related growth spurt.

thats crazy about the tin foil though, never expected myc to be so 'volatile' :p

Very interesting stuff, thanks for the links. Given the mushroom's placement in the ecological cycle, it makes sense that they could do this. Strange that it doesn't show a spike in aluminum content though...

I don't think they have any enzymes to transport or uptake it with. I could see mushrooms producing some sort of enzyme to break down something in their environment that also acts on aluminum though.
