Those picture couldn't be any more exact to where I found them.
I'm in WNY by the way for the others.

I think the unanswereds are both Cortinarius spp. Yes to Grifola frondosa. I might browse the others (and see what people say) in a bit.

nice hen of the woods! your first random pic looks like a honey mushroom cluster, would you be able to ID the tree theyre growing from? could be good eats depending on the wood!

I'd have to go back. Even then I'm not sure I could. It was pretty rotten.
I think it's #3 in this thread.

ive heard if they grow from bay trees or soft wood trees in general, you may get an upset stomach when you eat them. i know when ive seen them growing from the "ground" and i am unable to ID whatever deadwood they are growing from, i just let them be.
although i recently ate some chicken of the woods growing from eucalyptus which is said to give the same ill effect, so im contemplating trying the honeys regardless of what type of tree they may be growing on simply in the name of science, and personal experimentation.

Nothing special. Fried it in garlic and butter with some basil, oregano, salt n pepper and red pepper. The left side is just some cheese/spinach ravioli. It's crazy good though. My girlfriend is a vegetarian and she just ate herself into a coma. I'll be trying this next...
"Clean the mushroom by hand to remove any dirt, bugs, leaves Boil 3-4 quarts of water with 2 teaspoons of salt and 2 teaspoons of white vinegar Add mushrooms to boiling water and boil for 20 minutes Remove, rinse and cool Cut into 2 inch slices Dredge in seasoned flour Fry in olive oil until golden
If you slice them thin they come out like the most tasty chip you've ever had.
If you slice them a bit thicker, the mushroom stays meaty with a crispy outside.
I'm sure some of you are cringing at boiling these first, but I find the mushroom very astringent and I may even have a slight allergy to it. Raw it can make my mouth tingle a little (although I never ate a lot raw). I find that boiling the mushroom removes the astringency but retains much of the flavor."
Any tips on storing it? There's plenty more where this came from but I won't be able to eat it all.
Also, I cleaned it in the woods and stomped all the pieces I didn't take into similar places under other trees. Think that might do anything? And should these be in the same place next year?
thanks

Not sure what that means. Do these come out after rain?
these are the same ones a few weeks ago. I didn't eat them last time but they didn't smell as refreshing as they did this time. What stage is the best to pick them?

the best time to pick any mushroom for consumption is when they are fresh, without bugs, not waterlogged, or inhabited by slugs

different mushrooms fruit under different conditions
you have to watch the ones you are looking for over time to try to anticipate where/when they might occur
that's why it's hunting
