Questions on fruiting broken PF Cakes
    #18973708 - 10/13/13 08:00 PM (10 years, 4 months ago)

Hey this is my first time growing shrooms and I cant me more stoked. I bought the wrong jars, which the top was smaller than the rest of the jar so i could just pop them out, i had to break them apart. I also didn't realize I had to water the cakes before putting them in the fruiting camber with the wet perlite. now its about a week after Ive had them in my fruiting camber. and they look like this. half of the 9 cakes are fruiting and the other barly have shrooms flowering

I was thinking after this batch is done I can crumble up the cakes and sort of do the spawning method but i dont really know much about that.

what could you guys tell me about my broken cakes? will they work just fine?

Hi and welcome!
First off, I'd say stick to the broken cakes. I would drill some holes in that tub and put the cakes on some foil.

:whathesaid: Really all things considered they don't look that bad. Get some foil under them and holes in the tub asap though. Next time definitely try crumbling them up real fine and spawn them to a bulk sub of coir and verm :awesomenod:

i dont really know much about the spawning method, and all i read is kind of confusing.

No I don't think you can do that your second flush.  You would want to try it with your next group of jars was the intent I think.  Here's a basic tek  for spawning to coir/verm that I tried and found it pretty easy to follow.

Daimon5050

And here's a related idea that I'm trying because the size / ratios seems to be a good fit with above tek and the quantities of jars I'm working with:

that's the broken veil. Most people like to harvest the shrooms before the veil pops

That ring is the veil. The ideal time to cut those bad boys off would be right before the veil tears away from the bottom of the caps.  After that they start to lose potency and taste worse from what I've read. Congrats and good luck!

The ones that had the best genetics. Big and small they're all the same though some might disagree. When the cap opens and beings to sporulate the mushroom takes on additional water weight while not increasing alkaloid content so they're ever so slightly less potent but I can only imagine it being fractions of a fraction of a percent at that point.
