B+ Pins!! Blue Cakes?

My cakes finally started producing pins about 8-9 days in the terrarium. I have three 1/2 pints and one 1/4 pint cake. For some reason the 1/4 pint is the only cake without pins, and only one cake has more than a couple pins, but i'm not complaining. My only real concern is the blueing of the cakes, are the cakes begging me for more water. I have been misting them at least twice a day for almost two weeks now. I was actually becoming concerned that I was overmisting which was preventing pins. There was one 3 day period where I maybe only misted them one or two times, which is when they started pinning. What do you guys think? More misting?

Do you most them from a few feet above the cakes? One time I accidentally misted too closely and about an hour later they were blue like that. They bruise easily. . .

Yes I try and mist well above them pointing upward, allowing gravity to disperse the mist into the terrarium.

You can and should mist the cakes directly

If you are misting up into the air, all you're doing is giving contams more of a chance to grab onto those water droplets before they finally land on your cakes. I would rather have some bruising than bacterial contamination.
Still, if your spray bottle is bruising your cakes, you need a new spray bottle.

Good point. I guess I don't get carried away with it, I just don't directly spray at the cakes a few inches away. Is the blue just bruising or an indication of low hydration?

Cakes are very contam resistant once colonized.

It can be either/both.
Also do you handle them at all? Because that can cause bruising.

Have barely touched them after rolling. I did however have to transfer the entire terrarium 40 miles or so in a car. They started pinning shortly after the move, which I give at least partial credit to the sound waves beethoven's music was providing them. Hey you never know, I actually fruited my first grow behind a piano while playing them music and they turned out great.

I took some updated pics. The fruits are fairly small but it looks like the veils have already broken on many. Should I just go ahead and pick these?

Yup those are ready. If your cake starts to look dehydrated mid flush, I believe that you can just set it in a saucer of water and it will bottom hydrate.

You could also put a pile of wet vermiculite on the top of the cake.

Yes, it's harvest time! I've been told that they're at their peak potency right before the veils break... unless you're looking to make a spore print

Yep them look ready, harvest them and redunk the cake for 24hrs, if it turns blue set it in a saucer of water overnight, it can help dramatically. I did it once with a dry cake and it got hydrated and allowed the mushrooms to grow bigger.

When I grew B+ it also bruised this way. I was lead to believe that it could be from mycelium trying to support/hold such large fruits.
..or possibly caused by the mushroom using a lot of stored water too rapidly, stressing the mycelium.
( small b+ grow I did.. forth flush.)

All mushrooms are edible.. some only once
