Long Incubation Period
    #1884529 - 09/05/03 09:15 AM (20 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, my verm\brf B+ jars have bein inoculating for at least 6 weeks now I am just wondering how long until I should start worrying? They will probably be fully colonized within 2 weeks at the most is there any negative effects or troubles that I might encounter by leaving my jars inoculating too long? Thanks
P.S the jars were sitting at 90 F for far too long (probably 2 weeks) its at about 84-88 now.
Any information will be well appriciated.

I had a bag that took 2 months once. But it came on alright. Similar to you it was kinda warm, nut when it cooled, they took off. Cross your fingers!

The temperature at 90 was not a problem. It sounds like you're water content was not high enough, or the jars can't breath at all. 6 weeks is reaaaaally long, and the longer it takes the more likelyhood of contam, but it sounds like otherwise you are ok.

are there any signs of colonization? Im sure you mean "incubating"???
uh, no trouble there, you might grow an invitro pin or two, but that shouldn't hamper your results, unless you let it rot in there. once it's fully colonized on the outside, wait a couple more days for the center to fill in. 90F?? hmmmm, could be a little too hot.

wow thats alot if innoculating!
my foaf was told by some on here to take of the tape on the holes and give em a bit of a shake and turn em upside down.....it did the trick(make sure you give the room a good lysol spray before shaking just to be safe).

Make sure air can seep into the jars. If you have tape over the holes, take it off and just put some foil on top. You might want to try flipping them upside down as well. This lets the heavier co2 seep out.

I dont have tape over the holes just tinfoil under the lid (with needle holes from innoc.) and another layer on top and I flipped them upside down about 1 1\2- 2 weeks ago.
