liberty caps - good conditions

First of all, hello to everyone. I have done several searches and have found some interesting info, but still need couple of things being more clear for me.
I live in Poland, central Europe. We mostly hunt here for liberty cups, mostly. This summer was quite hot and very dry for us. Even before hunting I have asked my grandma for some advice - she told me that shrooms will not grow easly after a day or two of raining, since mushroom spawn has dried. She told me that it will have to rain for like 2 weeks for mushrooms to grow.
Few days ago it started to rain, not too heavy, but some, and it lasted for a 4 days or so. I decided to give it a try - I went to my familiar grassfield, the one I have found l. caps in previous years. Grasses were wet, the sun was shinning a little, but I have found nothing. I havent seen any other mushrooms, and last year i allways have found some of not interest. Actually, every time I was on this grassfield I was able to find some libs, sometimes a few, sometimes a hundred... Last thing I must add: this year I`v been there, like second September, and all previous years I have never been there earlier than end of September (25 or later).
My friend told me that`s because it is a bit too cold, and when it gets hotter they will grow. But now I think he is wrong, cold temp. is a plus, right? For last few days it was about 50 - 55F during day

I think you should wait a bit. I guesstimate that temperatures are not optimal yet (should fall a bit), and indeed, the mycelium might need a bit more time to rehydrate. If I'm any judge, wait like two to three weeks, and they should pop up again. On my hunts I haven't found fields providing favourable conditions yet (I'm in Holland, also had a very hot and dry summer, so I think our situations are comparable). So wait a bit, they should pop up at the end of the month or so.

Sounds like youve had a season like mine, hot and dry, with only a little rain just recently. Looks like we have to wait for more rain :-Z
One indicator is if you look at normall local lawns, and other species start to pop up, then its time to go to the fields :-)
Good luck and i wish for rain for you as well.

im in nova scotia, we had a wet mild summer, we actually had 2 weeks of steady rain at one point in late july, then almost evry other day in august. it pouring rain right now, night temps have dipped as low as 7c tonight it may well go below 10, that should initiate SOME fruiting SOMEwhere. ive been checking all the usual spots, nothing yet, but probably in the next 2 weeks and definately by mid october

My grandparents have showed me all about "how to pick mushrooms" in the past... but not magic ones!

I've just been hunting for Libertys in the Midlands, in England, and so far I've found nothing. Like most of Europe, we've had a very hot, dry summer, which could reduce the amount of mushrooms fruiting this year. Although I have found Libs as early as late august in past years, they don't normally start appearing in any great quantities until late september where I'm from, so there's still time.
I fear that it won't be the greatest of harvest due to the lack of rain though.
